Beginning with a biblical foundation and consideration of the founding fathers intent, this course provides an understanding of today s legal, moral, and ethical issues of law and government. Law & Government: An Introductory Study Course includes lecture follow-up questions and writing assignments that will help students engage each subject at a deeper level. In addition to learning concepts of civil government and public policy, students will be strengthened in their understanding of biblical principles which govern us and which point us to the Lawgiver who governs us all - Jesus Christ.
This study course is divided into seven units:
Unit 1: An introduction to foundational concepts of law, ethics, and public policy that are critical for a biblical understanding of the subject matter.
Unit 2: The doctrine of jurisdictional authority, the nature and source of all authority, and the limits of authority.
Unit 3: The role of private citizens, the proper interpretation of the United States Constitution, and the issues of social ethics and biblical economics.
Unit 4: The electoral system, a biblical framework for casting votes, and the constitutional electoral process.
Unit 5: The Executive Branch of the United States government and its constitutional functions.
Unit 6: The Judicial Branch of the United States government, the constitutional functions of the United States Supreme Court, the selection of judges, judicial review, and the importance of judicial precedent.
Unit 7: The Legislative Branch of the United States government, the proper constitutional powers of Congress, and the foundational concepts and history of law.
