This is the first volume of the diaries of William A. Holland of Duncannon Pennsylvania.Pvt. Holland served in Company B of the 42nd Pennsylvania volunteers also known as the Bucktails. The transcription begins in April of 1861 and ends in June of 1864.there are many interesting descriptions of camp life as well as a record of the movements and battles of the Regiment throughout the war. Included are entries for battles at Fredericksburg, Antietam, and Gettysburg among many others. Mr. Holland returned to civilian life in June of 1864. He pursued a career in his hometown as a newspaper correspondent school board member and many other roles in the community.
