About At the Ready Magazine:

At the Ready exists to give a voice to emergency first responders far from the big-city spotlight. When a natural or human-caused disaster strikes a person or community, whether fire, crime, medical emergency, or weather event, you are the difference between life and death, security and damage. Small, mid-sized, and rural departments represent 80% of the active departments nationwide. You deserve to be heard and to exchange ideas on a national level. Your unique approaches to overcoming challenges may benefit an agency on the other side of the country facing the same concerns. Yet your efforts and service often are overlooked compared to large metropolitan departments.

At the Ready is here to provide a platform for you.

First responders face challenges in certification, continuing education requirements and training, keeping equipment current, and keeping themselves safe. In the small to mid-size agency, you may be an hour from mutual aid, and you may have to wait on scene for specialized teams that are located in larger cities. Your training budget may be practically non-existent, and the equipment budget? It may buy a tire or two, but batteries? Sorry, maybe next fiscal year. That’s where At the Ready can support you. Collaboration between departments brings together your experience and your creativity. At the Ready can get the word out.

What are your problems, solutions, successes and frustrations? What innovations can you share? What programs have you initiated or improved? What collaborations have been fruitful? Your stories can become part of the larger story.
