The Queen was now expecting her accouche ment: it was impossible for me, therefore, to leave her while the King was thus occupied with his conquests. On his Majesty's return to Paris, there were strong rumours of peace. About the same period, the Princess of Baden and Madame d' Armagnac were banished from Court no reason being assigned as regarded the Princess. With respect to Madame, it was well known that she was accused of having written to the Queen the letter which contained the announcement of the King' S growing attachment to Madame de Montespan.
