Close to the first episode in terms of style. Like Kaab.
I thoroughly enjoyed this
From strength to strengthThe Tremontaine saga continues. The plot thickens, more mysteries of the world are revealed, and yet more questions appear. I'll be waiting with bated breath for the next chapter.
Kaab’s family prepares a Balam feast for other merchants in her honor. Rafe Fenton’s university is in tumult; the Board of Governors are voting to change the rules by which scholars are tested. Rafe is interested in navigation, particularly celestial navigation, which his ancient academic establishment has not mastered. This is fun! I read this on my Kindle.
I liked, 'The North Side of the Sun' better than the first installment, 'Arrivals'. Alaya Dawn Johnson keeps it interesting, liked her simpler writing style, as the storyline switches between Ixkaab, Micah and the Duchess everything flows together perfectly. Still like both Ixkaab's and Micah's characters, like how this one expands Ixkaab character more, learn more about chocolate trade, the different varieties of it makes sense of her parts in 'Arrivals'. Definitely will keep reading the Tremon...

Onwards with season one, episode two of Tremontaine. In The North Side of the Sun written by Alaya Dawn Johnson focuses on Ixkaab Balam and her family’s customs. The writing got a bit confusing at points. And Kaab’s ignorance/racism gets old quickly.
Another terrific episode.
Felt like filler that didn't give me much insight into the characters, instead just setting up the stage for the next parts, with the scene at the strike between Rafe and [spoiler] being the only exception. I hope the next episode is better.
2.5 starsI'm not digging this episode format. Each one so far seems like a collection of events, rather than having their own solid plots. It'll probably be a while before I try #3.

Really enjoying the slice-of-life nature of these episodes, with their vaguely interconnected stories. Balam's Mayan-inspired culture is particularly fascinating. Charming stuff!
I'm burning through the entire Riverside series this autumn.A strong continuation that ties in well to the third episode. Alaya Dawn Johnson does a good job maintaining the distinct character voices and motivations as storylines begin to cross one another.
This episode was very fun - it had many things happening that will affect the series in the future.
Another solid novella that delves deeper into the world and begins to unfold some interesting plots. Plots that begin with character are now becoming conflicts that may spread over an ocean and nations.All such great stuff.Can't believe it took me so long to finally jump into these.I probably won't keep doing individual reviews but will do an overall one when I finish the entire thirteen part series.
