Somehow, this feels like one of the more low-key episodes in this serial, even though two key events happen here: (view spoiler)[Micah finally has her Eureka! moment regarding the secret of celestial navigation, and a clue is given that the Duchess' secret is something that will destroy her social position - not just her fortune - if revealed. This was my first read from the author Paul Witcover, liked 'Lies In Our Stars' it works with the other installments, the flow of his writing's perfect and hope he be writing more installments in the other seasons of the Tremontaine series. It was only a matter of time before Micah would figure out the equations, realize that IxKaab mislead her and the author put you right their at the butcher shop as she wrote figures on the shop window. Not too much to say about this chapter - it felt mostly transitory, though with some plot progression and good characterisation happening in the background. Still, I feel like some authors have a much better handle on one character than another, and Diane and Micah (as well as Rafe) in particular can sound different from one installment to the next: perhaps unavoidably so. damn this is excellent! You know you are reading a great political intrigue when you are rooting for all sides and are nervous for everyone, least the plot actually unfold. I love hanging on the tender hooks with this series!

I'm burning through all of Riverside this autumn.A tense episode, with some key developments. Discoveries are made, minds are settled, and allegiances are tested and adjusted accordingly. It's a bit of a transitionary piece, but a decent read with some stand-out scenes, chiefly among them a stand-off between three close friends - can they stay that way? - and a chance for the Duchess to display excellent manipulation tactics.
