A life lived in fear is a life half-lived. Lucas is a troubled young boy from a broken home. He soon graduates from petty theft to stealing cars and prostitution. While recovering from an injury in hospital he meets his idol - Tim Sheppard, a professional rugby league player who would later be the first to publicly announce his homosexuality. Lucas moves out of home and eventually in with Tim who manages to provide some stability in his life. He also learns that Lucas has been sexually abused while receiving treatment from an elderly chiropractor. Shortly before he is due to give evidence in a trial against this man Lucas goes missing and his body is discovered in a shallow grave 5 years later. Police investigators focus their attentions on the chiropractor and Tim but receive a warning from within that the prostitution ring encompasses some protected and powerful individuals.
