A previous undiscovered chamber is found under the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey in England's Somerset. Cambridge archeologist Dr.David Bishop and his romantic interest and fellow archeologist Dr. Miriam Kunderstrum, introduced in "The Arms of Michael," join forces to investigate. The secret chamber, constructed by the monks of the abbey centuries before held a great religious relic. New information from an archeological dig in Israel seems to confirm that Joseph of Arimathea may have actually visited England in ancient times and nitially Bishop believes they may be actually looking for the fabled Holy Grail, long connected with the Glastonbury area.
It is discovered that true relic does exist, one that when brought to light touches off a frenzy of activities prove it is real, settle who owns it, and complete the connection between a family of Roman officials from the first century and the current owners who are members of the English peerage. One character, Kamel Barrett, seems to have an extraordinary interest in the relic, for reasons beyond anything the two archeologist can figure. the romance between Bishop and Kunderstrum began in, "The Arms of Michael," comes to fruition as the mystery of the relic is eventually solved.
