Nihilism, most simply defined, is a philosophy of nothingness. The study of philosophy could be defined as the search for meaning in life. If one subscribes to nihilism, it follows that he has searched and found nothing, or perhaps that he has found no reason to search for meaning. How then should a person direct his life, and what acts comprise that direction? One such direction might be to put an end to life itself—one’s own, or all existence. This book asks how a philosophy of nihilism might lead one to end his or her life. And it tells the story of one person who did exactly that.
