Wait, wasn't it supposed to be a duology?
This review can be found originally on Heart Full of BooksThis is the second, and I presume final book in The Alchemy Chronicles. I feel very lucky that I got to read them one after the other, instead of waiting the year for The Secret City to come out, because I was completely engrossed with the first book. It was action packed and incredibly well paced, so I was genuinely excited to get around to this book. The acknowledgements of book one also seemed to suggest that there was only one more bo...
3.5/5 stars. It was okay.
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view. The Secret Fire was one of my favourite books last year, and I knew I wouldn't be able to wait long to wait its sequel. When The Secret City went live on NetGalley, I immediately requested and downloaded it, and started to read it. Picking up after the events of The Secret Fire, Sacha and Taylor find themselves in Oxford, for their own safety. Now that Taylor knows she is an Alchemist, and it's...
This book was so much better than the first one. So good!!! I didn’t think I could love sacha and Taylor more but I do. This book had an open ending and there was room for more but I’m so sad because the authors have not mentioned that there is any more books coming out in this series. If you haven’t read the secret fire and the secret city yet, do, it’s so gooooodddd
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for a chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review! My review can also be found on our blog Paein and Ms4TuneWhat an exciting, fast paced sequel! I read The Secret Fire last year and enjoyed it, but I’ll be honest, I couldn’t remember a lot of what happened when I finally got round to reading this book. It didn’t matter though. The Secret City re-introduced me to the characters and the events of The Secret Fire but in a way that was enterta...
After the dramatic end in The Secret Fire, I stalked NetGalley for this book. I had to know what on earth was going to happen now, and how would Taylor and Sacha ever stand a chance of defeating the darkness. The Secret City is a book that follows on from it's predecessor amazingly. It packs its own punch and certainly keeps this plot alive. We start The Secret City with Sacha and Taylor at St Wilfred's college learning how to use their powers, and researching every book they can get hold of. Wit...
2.5/5I just don’t know how to review this one...The first book is not very good tbh, but it does have sentimental value to me for a few different reasons. So I just decided I’ll read the second. And... I’m not happy. Here the thing, I really love the story idea. I really do. But it’s done so poorly and in this annoying way. And it doesn’t get to the story’s potential.I think Taylor is just an annoying “cliche” kind of a character. While reading it I realized how basic the writing is.Tbh I think the...
InkvotaryThat was great! Filled with action, two fantastic main characters and a story full of passion, love, darkness and magic. The way how Taylor and Sacha deal with what is supposed to be their destiny, how they act and what they do to proof that love can solve everything, wow, just wow! Ok, there are some pages towards the end during which the story becomes a bit flat, but mostly this novel is big entertainment.
The Secret City is the second book of the Alchemist Chronicles written by authors C.J. Daugherty and Carina Rozenfeld. The series is a young adult fantasy series based around alchemy and curses. In the first book we met Taylor Montclair and Sacha Winters who lived in different countries but had met online when their teachers set them up for tutoring sessions. Taylor was an overachiever student who took the assignment for the extra credit and Sacha was slacking off in school but it's found that i...
Ehhh. Thoughts to come. ---I KINDA WISH THE COVER WAS A BIT DIFFERENT BUT YAY IM SO EXCITED
I was really shocked when i saw that i put 4 stars for the first book. I didn't know i liked that book that much, cause for this second book, i didn't enjoy it at all. The characters. WHat characters ? They are flat and uninteresting. In the first book, i did like Sacha and Taylor didn't bother me that much, but in this book, oh dear god, they were so boring. About the secondary characters : Louisa and Alastair. They are so vulgar and for unucessary reasons. I mean swearing doesn't bother me a l...
3.5 starsThe Alchemist Chronicles was a good duology. The writing style was fluid, the story itself and the characters were interesting. The only thing that left me a little bit unsatisfied was the ending, because there were some things left unsaid. Since it's only a duology, I don't think there will be any chance to discover them, unless the writers decide to write a third book. Anyway, aside this little flaw, I enjoyed it very much.
Bookouture and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of The Secret City. This is my honest opinion of the book. The Secret City follows immediately after The Secret Fire, which is book one in this series. After the Bringers attacked, Taylor Montclair and Sacha Winters joined hands and crushed them. They now live at St. Wilfred's College for their safekeeping, as there are many at the school that know and have the power that Taylor can wield. The curse of Sasha's family line means that he
Thanks to Netgalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for giving me this book to review. The Secret City is an enjoyable paranormal sequel to The Secret Fire which is fast paced. There more romance in this book and more action but I never felt worried about whether Sacha and Taylor would survive. One touch in this book I liked was the use of different symbols at the start of each chapter to show whose POV it is, out of Taylor, Sacha and Louisa. Taylor is struggling to learn control of her powers bu...
"Demons lie." Well, what a way to start 2020 with a disappointment. The first book in this duology was an entertaining read, although a very cliché one and without any surprises and I was set on finishing it. But this final novel was just...I don't know, poorly done? It started out ok, with our protagonists trying to figure out how to break the curse, Taylor having the much-needed training she required, Sasha trying to be useful (and failing, because really, all he's good for is dying
I enjoy this sequel, the action, the romance, were here. I really like the mix between England and France. It was a fun reading
3.5 StarsI was apprehensive getting into The Secret City because while I loved the premise of book 1 (The Secret Fire), I was disappointed in the execution. The Secret City was much better The Secret Fire and I kind of wish there was another installment in this series because I can’t wait to see what happens with these characters next. The Secret City is full of action, danger, romance, and learning to embrace your fears to become more than you ever thought you could be. I think this book was utterly amazing, I unfortunately realised at the end, that I had missed the first book, so I'll have to read that next. But the rich story and the ever flowing scenes drew me deep into the book. Some books I have to force myself to read, to hobble through, but not this book. This book had me captured from the first pages as it drew me further and further into it's world. By the end, my emotions followed those of the characters directly, when they felt hopeless, I did. When
The Secret City picks right up where The Secret Fire left off, with Taylor learning how to control her magic while she and Sascha and the alchemists of St Winifred's are searching for the key to breaking Sascha's curse. There's a lot more action in this one when Taylor and Sascha have to race through France to Carcassone to beat a villain who is trying to raise a demon. It felt like the ending was rushed - they found the solution all at once and then it seemed to be over very quickly but the res...
