A remarkably well-done short story.
Super cute mini-comic! Nowak is a great artist, and the story of teenage best friends in a fantasy shopping mall is funny and moving.
Oh man I have been waiting for this for ages and just today realized not only is it a mini comic my library will never get but ALSO I could just read it online. Anyway it's great and I look forward to Girl Town.
Radishes is the story of two teenage girls, Kelly and Beth, who skip school to hang out at an outdoor mall and get a bit more adventure than they had bargained on. There's a lot packed into this short comic, and I really loved it. It's funny, the dialog feels spot-on, and it has some lovely messages. I liked what it had to say about the empowerment that comes from close female friendships, and I was especially impressed by its subtext about body issues. There is an extremely poignant scene near the end that's exquisitely done.
I'd give this six stars if I could! Nowak has an incredible ear for dialogue, and her pacing is perfect.
