Once you get past the initial batch of Rob Liefield 90’s EXTREME hot messes, Marvel’s Merc-With-A-Mouth’s early outings are a perfect illustration that even a clear rip-off of Deathstroke and Spidey mashed together can still manage to outshine the originals with the right creative tweaks.
I thought this omnibus kind of strung me along for a ride of semi-dark Marvel in the 90s with little to no context. To be clear, I've never read any Deadpool before. I wanted to start with some foreknowledge before I picked up on a more 21st century run. There was a lot I did not understand because I am unfamiliar with the X-Force, Cable, Mr. Rollover, Black Tom and Juggernaut, etc. It was still good to get an all-around feel for what Deadpool has done, and what he is like. Title pretty much says it all. This is a huge omnibus full of Deadpool's earliest appearances in various Marvel titles. Some comics are represented only by a page or two if his appearance was brief, but everything seems to be here. It's nice to see the character evolving over time. I do like how there are text bits summarizing relevant storylines, so even if Deadpool wasn't in the next issue of a particular title, you'll get a summary of how the story ended so you aren't left hanging. Come il primo volume su Deadpool: scialbo. Disegni: mostrano la loro età, con ambientazioni ridotte al minimo indispensabile, corporature deformed, vestiti (quando c'è qualcuno che non indossa costumi) ridicoli e colori troppo accesi. All'epoca non me ne accorgevo, ormai è difficile non notarlo. D'altronde che aspettarsi da Liefeld?? Magari Waid potrebbe, adesso, fare qualcosa di più.
Zbiór jest bardzo zróżnicowany i wolo poznajemy Deadpoola jako, że patrząc na całokształt jest tu więcej jego gościnnych występów niżeli jego własnych komiksów. Disclaimer: I only bought and read this book because it was cheap and introduced a character who would have much better material later on. It's not a bad compilation despite some pages of prose that just offer recaps because Deadpool didn't feature in the actual issues, and I'm glad Marvel at least didn't leave us completely clueless about what had transpired.
