I love the crazy blend of ideas, the wild energy and how queer it all is. However, with such a detailed world, sometimes the story gets really challenging to follow and the panel-to-panel storytelling is a challenge to follow. Still it was worth the effort and I'll be picking up the next one.
This was a fun one. I love the relationship between the two main characters and especially that the book features a diverse cast: casually queer + trans characters just living their lives (as intergalactic bounty hunters). Those identities are simply part of their lives, rather than the storyline itself.Plus the art is beautiful and I love their hair.
I met one of the writers of this book at Five Points festival and she was very nice (she signed my copy). The prospect of a series pitched as Cowboy Bebop meets Broad City (or Blade Runner meets Jem and the Holograms, was the other comparison I heard), seemed appealing. It's a really fun series that uses modern dialogue and off-beat nontraditiinal "super hero" characters in a very effective and accessible way. The story is great, though I did feel the characters all have a very similar voice, re...
I liked the premise of this one, but the whole thing was a bit chaotic and episodic, so it didn’t really hold my attention. I did like the artwork and the fun and creative world-building, but just didn’t connect with the characters enough to really care about the story.
I love Black Mask comics. I was first introduced to this through Katy Rex and her Jade Street Protection Service comic. I had been wanting to read this for a while and it lived up to the hype. This comic follows two Kim's who are making ends meet in their Scooby Doo like van and collecting bounties. They're conflicted when they catch one bounty who also turns into an octopus. Will they turn him in? Who is he? Also bonus points for this comic representing the trans/non binary community. I try and
AMAZING. can't get enough
Please deliver the rest of the series directly into my brain right now. It is all the things, and also the art is real cute. My new favorite.
In a way, I think it's cool that I didn't really like Kim & Kim. That we've reached a point where I can look at a book whose cast is multi-racial, multi-sexual, and multi-gender and still think, Eh. The story isn't doing much for me." Of course, if anyone takes issue with the multi-racial, multi-sexual, multi-gender makeup of the cast, I will fight them tooth and nail, because I think it's a wonderful, necessary thing that Visaggio & Co. are doing here. It's just not a wonderful, necessary thing...
So refreshing to have such casually queer (not to mention badass) girls starring in a comic (I super want them to meet America Chavez... alas. That's what fan fic is for!). I'm also always for queer romance -- we don't get enough of that! -- but nor do we get enough queer women friendships, and this does a beautiful job portrayed that very needed relationship type! Also, just a ton of fun: irreverent, interstellar bounty hunters? How can you say no?
Loud and bright and crazy, and massively fun, you need Kim & Kim in your life.If you follow me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram you might have seen me posting about this graphic novel a lot recently. I'm not gonna apologise because I absolutely loved everything about Kim & Kim! The two Kims are bounty hunters, adventuring around space trying to make enough money to pay their rent. Their spaceship is a van that looks like the one from Scooby-Doo, and their weapons are an electric guitar and a br...
3,5*Kim & Kim is a fast paced story about trans and bisexual bounty hunters. Kim Q. and Kim D. are a great match and their easy bickering and teamwork deceipt the nature of their friendship in just few pages. The art style is bright, messy, and dynamic. All of this is served with an interesting punk vibe. __________________________ insta | twitter | blog | booksirens | duolingo
This was a cute comic; fun art, dashes of humour, and some interesting and engaging characters. The plot itself is okay and the hook was decent enough but it's not the reason I'm going to continue with this series to see how it pans out.
Meh. Yes, this has diversity and representation, but... the AMAB trans character refers to herself as a man? There's use of the word "cripple?" And the storyline didn't remotely interest me. So, while I'm glad this is out in the world, I'm also glad I only spent a dollar on this issue. Not my thing. A lot of the artwork is cool, though.
So I randomly heard of this comic from twitter the day before it came out. Two heroines one a bi woman and one a trans woman, I had to get it. It was fantastic! Totally quirky and strange in a science fiction universe unlike anything I've come across before. The wackier parts of spaceballs mixed in with anime or something. No idea how to describe this. It is unique and glorious and I'm really looking forward to the next issue.
Great cover, good art and a neat story concept! Unfortunately it's ruined by it's continuous clunky exposition and dialogue. I know this is the first issue, so exposition would be needed, but the dialogue was just so boring and poorly done, at least in my opinion. Also some of the story beats presented felt a bit rushed, I think?
Kim & Kim work together as “interdimesional cowboy law enforcement”, but when they take a job and get in over their heads, they have to deal with the consequences. Action-packed, snarky, and bright, Kim & Kim is a great story to read when you just need a good fck you story. A fast-paced, beautifully drawn action-adventure, space-travel story, Kim & Kim also has LGBTQ+ stories, without making the struggle of LGBTQ+ the only facet of the adventure. The official description ends with: “Kim & Kim is...
I've never read the Tank Girl comics, but I've always loved the movie (shut up, it's awesome). I loved the sheer punk-ness of it - the over-the-top sass, the stuff that makes no sense but gets thrown in just because it's cool, the colours, the joy of it.Kim & Kim has that same energy. The Fighting Kims live in a grounded, real world (one Kim is humiliated by having to beg her parents to pay her rent when she fails yet again, while the other Kim is consistently misgendered by her father), yet the...
I don't typically read comics but I found Kim & Kim on sale for a dollar and thought, why not? I actually really enjoyed it. I like the plot and loved the art. The characters were really cool and unique too.
I really enjoyed this! To be honest, I wasn't so sure after chapter 1 - I've been mostly reading Marvel comics lately, and this is a change of pace. I spent the beginning being a little confused about who everyone was, but as soon as I started chapter 2, I really got into it. I like the characters and their interplanetary lifestyle, and I love the art. There were also several lines that made me laugh, which I always appreciate.
Fun, entertaining cyberpunk with engaging characters.
