I'm a sucker for the poor space bounty hunter genre. My only complaints were that in a couple of the action scenes I wasn't sure where somebody went to or came from and smoking (gross). I'll definitely be on the lookout for a volume 3.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to get around to this considering I read the first volume back in 2019, but I'm glad I finally picked it up again. I enjoyed this even more than the first one because it has a longer story arc which helped with the pacing issues I had with the first one.Representation: multiple queer characters
Damn near perfect, Love Is A Battlefield, proves what the first Volume hinted at: Kim & Kim is the quintessential queer comic of our time. Mercenaries for hire, the fighting Kims are still traveling through the multiverse kicking ass, taking names, and refusing to be defined by anyone, anywhere. But this time, it's personal. Having their most recent bounty hijacked by Kim D's ex-girlfiend, has sent both women into a spiral of destruction and bickering. Kicking herself for getting hoodwinked by L...
I really enjoyed this comic. It’s really queer forward and fun. I enjoyed the first Vol, but I really enjoyed getting more of Kim D’s backstory. As the title might suggest, getting to see both Kim’s exes brought some drama and an entertaining storyline. I really love the color work here too. Neons scream space to me. But, it also has a San Junipero feel, which just falls in line with the queer forwardness, and the idea that art is not created in a vacuum. The sign of a good book to me is that I a...
I love this series! Please keep making more, everybody involved with this series! Kim and Kim are awesome characters who deal with their emotional stuff while also bounty hunting for money (and occasionally fighting their horrible exes). They’re basically Boba Fett, but with actual personalities and better at bounty hunting (since they didn’t end up in a sarlacc pit thanks to a blind guy).
Another wacky tale of bounty-hunting professional hot messes Kim D and Kim Q, both of whose exes are suddenly back in the picture. The art is really gorgeous in this volume -- I think it's an improvement over the first volume's lineart, and the colors are still wonderfully vivid.
Kim & Kim LLC FTW!(And interesting essays at the back.)
Kim & Kim is an excellent romp. Magdalene Visaggio has quickly become one of my favorite writers in the comic medium, and I’ll pick up anything she writes at this point. But I also want to mention the essays at the end. Four short manifestos about what queer comics are, aren’t, and should be. I’m not sure how the essayists were selected, but I don’t care. They were all insightful and moving. If you’re interested in the subject of queer comics, you should read what these women have to say.
I liked this series more than the first, both are great but this one just felt a little better to me. Not much to say, I think this is an important title and has great representation, Magdalene is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.
Good guitar, nice hair, terrible life choices.
It was such a joy returning to this world with these hilarious, messy, badass, kickass, not to mention gorgeous women. A really fun time with stolen money, terrible exes, and awesome fights. Also, the four short essays at the paper of the volume on what queerness means in comics (spoiler alert, it's more than just a character being labeled 'queer' because it's trendy) were excellent and well worth the read.
I got very attached to their hair in the last volume, so other than their haircuts (which I still loved!?), I thought this volume was even better than the first. They're still intergalactic bounty hunters, but this volume dealt so much more with their relationships with each other and other people and I really loved getting to know them more personally that way.
****4.5 Stars****I almost gave this 5 stars but the fact that it ends the way it does made me go to 4.5 stars. Don't get me wrong, the ending is horrible or anything, I just wanted to learn more about the Kims' new endeavors now!! :) Can't wait to see where this series goes!
3.5 stars--Queer bounty hunters do make me happy.
actual rating: 3.5How did I miss the fact that there was a second and third volume to this series??? I didn't enjoy this one QUITE as much as the first volume, but it was still a really fun read. The art, characters, and world-building are all fantastic as always and it's great to see a fun action packed sci-fi comic with a mostly-female cast. I feel like this volume was a bit slower on the action than the first, with more time spent focusing on past and present relationships instead, which is p...
This one is not as fun as the first volume, but I still enjoyed it and would happily continue reading this series (if it continues).
Kim and Kim are about to get a bounty that will set them up for, well, awhile anyway, when an ex-lover comes calling--and steals what they need to get their payday! The Kims aren't going to take this lying down, even if the old flame's return causes some friction. In the end, our heroines get to blow stuff up, fly in space, and kick the crap out of faceless (literally) minions in this extremely solid sequel to the first series.I'm still waiting on my copy of Vol 3, and I can't wait to see what's...
I really enjoyed this book - I think what keeps bringing me back to Kim and Kim is that they are both so messed up, but they are trying and they show each other the love they deserve - like good friends are there for you no matter what, but they also call you on your BS, especially when that BS is hurting you. Also Kim D's ex is the very worst.
Two of my favourite cursing, punk rocking intergalactic bounty hunters, at it again. Lots of great lines, drama with exes and action scenes make for a fun read. Can't wait to see them in action again.
Kim & Kim, dare I say, grow up a little bit in this book. Still a ton of fun.
