Great stories, as usual. Glimmer Train knows how to pick the best varied voices and themes that somehow make a cohesive whole. For me, the standout story in this collection is "When We Hear Yellow" by Lauren Green.
The story by Wendy Rasmussen is delightful. It's about a romance between a refugee from the Gulf War, who is traumatized by the battles yet resilient, and an American woman who has recently lost her brother to suicide. The story is about how two wounded souls can help each other to heal. The narration is warm, playful, and has such affection for the characters and ambiguous situations.
Good issue. Solid throughout, but there were definitely a few sparklers that stood out. Enjoyable all around the rest of the time too though.
