Celtic Piano Book 1 starts with a review of the musical alphabet, notes on the keyboard, piano fingering, the grand staff, note and rest values, repeat signs and tied notes. The first nine pieces use 5-finger position in left hand and right hand. The last three pieces add A for each hand. These enjoyable hands-separate pieces, in three-four and four-four time signatures, progress gradually to help students with timing and learning the rhythms of Celtic music. Susan MacDonald is a piano teacher, organist and composer living in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
