The book is dedicated to a series of lunettes depicting the Villas of the Medici family through extraordinary aerial views. These paintings were ordered in 1599 by the Grand Duke Ferdinando I de' Medici to the Flemish artist Iustus Van Utens; after several transfers, the lunettes are today exposed in the Villa Medicea delle Petraia in Florence , where visitors can now see the painting after a thorough work of restoration, which is the main subject of the book. Presentation by Stefano Casciu, Marco Mozzo. Texts by Alessandra Griffo, Cristina Acidini, Alessandra Marino, Giorgio Galletti, Filippo Camerota, Rosella Lari.

La pubblicazione è dedicata alla serie di 14 lunette dipinte da Iustus van Utens tra la fine del '500 e l'inizio del '600, raffiguranti altrettante ville Medicee in vedute aeree di straordinaria precisione e abilità decorativa. La serie fu commissionata al pittore fiammingo nel 1587 dal Granduca Ferdinando I de' Medici, che collocò le opere nella sua dimora di Artimino. Dopo numerosi spostamenti, le lunette sono oggi collocate nella Villa Medicea La Petraia a Firenze, dove sono esposte al pubblico in seguito a un accurato lavoro di restauro, documentato nel volume.
