Boucher ist gerade dabei, ein Sch�ferspiel zu malen, und Reynolds ist nicht wenig erstaunt, zu sehen, da� der Meister keine lebenden Modelle ben�tzt, um seine Sch�ferinnen danach zu malen. Boucher malt �berhaupt nicht nach der Natur, sondern verl��t sich ganz auf sein Erinnerungsverm�gen. Reynolds macht Mitteilungen dar�ber, und die K�nstler sind mit gro�em Eifer dabei, die Tatsache zum Gegenstand ihrer Diskussion zu machen.
