The Road to Reentry is one of those books that will shed light on those leaving prison. Which this book will talk about the barriers we face once released. It is well known that formally incarcerated inmates face significant challenges upon being released. The truth is, formally incarcerated inmates reintegrating into society upon release face challenges that are so complex, multi-layered, and interconnected that it’s hard to wrap our heads around them. A person’s life depends on having shelter and food. Until those needs are met, it is unlikely that a newly released man or woman will be able to focus on anything else. I urge you not to dismiss the applicant with the criminal record based on that alone. Consider what they could offer your organization, and how important a role you could play in giving a disadvantaged person a chance to prove themselves. The same goes if you’re a landlord or a property manager. Nobody can single-handedly fix our justice system or the barriers former inmates face in society. However, each of us can do something to help. The number one thing any member of the public can do is try to educate yourself about the issues.
