The cover drew me in. Love the pregnant woman holding her own with a shotgun. (spoiler: when she picks up the shotgun in the story itself, she doesn't disappoint)I really liked the setting, too. Pretty unique for series romantic suspense, set amongst the hillfolk and small towns in northern Georgia. Reminded me of my Ozarks roots. The H/h made me a little crazy with their inability to communicate with each other, but I absolutely loved the suspense!
Liked the setting and thought the mystery was good. Wanted the hero to grovel a whole lot more and the heroine had a couple of moments where she definitely could have been smarter. I also found it a bit out of touch that the illegal drugs mentioned in the story predominantly centered around marijuana with a couple references to cocaine. In 2018, marijuana is still the illegal drug boogeyman? In a romantic suspense? Set in northern Georgia? Really? Not one mention of heroin or fentanyl anywhere -...
I love this story. Its about old prejudices and new. Lilah Tedder is from a family of secrets whose family business is moonshine. Harlan Sampson is a deputy because of that any association with someone whose papa does moonshine could kill any chances to become sheriff. Hence the problem of prejudice old and new. But add to it a few murders. This will keep the pages turning trying to figure out who done it. Its an awesome book my 1st time reading this author and looking forward to the next book i...
Thrilling to read. Lot of action.
This was first published on my blog " Lecture Toute une Aventure" Very good! This book was perfect to start my year as i really loved it. It's a second chance romance if you want ( i'm not fond of those but in this case no cheating was involved only misunderstanding or something like that) but more importantly a romance suspense and i LOVE those! really when it's cold or raining outside staying in front of the fire immersed in a good investigation is a real pleasure. In this case it's even b
This is the first book in Debbie Herbert’s new suspense series- Appalachian Prey. I’ve read several of Debbie’s paranormal romance books about mermaids, shape-shifters, and witches, and I love her writing! This book too does not disappoint. Here’s an example of Debbie Herbert’s vivid description that draws you right in: “A thousand shades of green dotted a turquoise sky. From here the wild Chattooga River, which served as the border between Georgia and South Carolina appeared as a thin line of wa...
Realistic with true-to-life characters and an original premise, APPALACHIAN PREY grabs the attention and never lets go. I was immediately captivated by how genuine the setting plus people were at all times. Debbie Herbert certainly makes the Appalachian locale come across as very credible, and the manner in which several individuals were determined to do things their way also seemed to fit their personalities. The author had me believing in every situation that arose, regardless of whether the e...
It was "okay." Some of the details were a little silly, and it didn't grip me, but it was alright.
After having left twelve years ago, Lilah Tedder came back to oversee her father’s affairs. Chauncy Tedder was murdered a week ago; Chauncy might have had a moonshine operation, but he wasn’t into drug dealing, which is one of the first things Lilah heard after her return to Lavender Mountain. Three months before, Lilah had visited, and during her break she and local deputy Harlan Sampson spent a glorious week together. Lilah was hoping for more, until Harlan confessed that he wanted to run for
Appalachain Prey is a second chance romance slash suspense. This story actually surprised me. I had the sinister culprit picked entirely wrong. Debbie Herbert kept me on my toes. She left me with so much to think about while reading. I loved it. Lilah came home after the demise of her father to tie up family affairs only to be put in the middle of a bloody feud. She had a secret that she wasn't ready to openly share with the entire clan. She needed to decide if she wanted to share her secret wit...
After seeing all the great reviews, I took a chance and purchased this book, but for the life of me, I can't understand what was so great about it.....You have a stupid moron of a H who is career driven and thinks the h is bad for his career because of who her family is, so he breaks things off and 3 months later, h comes back to town, pregnant, and telling H that the baby is not his because she doesn't want to pin him down and ruin his chances of becoming a Sheriff. She is also rightfully hurt
I love the way that by the 3rd page you feel like you are on Lavender Mountain, you can almost smell the moonshine.....Liliah Teddar is the daughter of the mountains famous moonshiner, so when she falls for Harlan Sampson ,the up and coming Sheriff, If Harlan wanted to be the next Sheriff he couldn't get mixed up with a Teddar....When Liliah's father is suddenly murdered , and then Darla, Harlan feels protective over Liliah and wont let her out of his site as they dig up old family secrets that
Emotionally gripping, action packed second chance romantic adventure filled with danger, passion and mystery. Highly entertaining and intriguing new world I can't wait to revisit.
