Awol Musters Out

Awol Musters Out

Bertrand Shurtleff
0/5 ( ratings)
AWOL, the doberman pinscher and his master, George Stanhope, both honorably discharged from the service, travel to the mysterious continent of Australia. Tin is needed by the government and Stanhope is on the trail of a rich lode supposed to be located on the Fitzmaurice River about 175 miles southwest of Port Darwin.

Government regulations make it necessary to leave AWOL in quarantine at Port Darwin. But, when Stanhope takes off, the dog breaks free and starts out after the plane. Escaping pursuers and bullets, he vanishes into the bush.

On the Fitzmaurice, Stanhope is joined by his WAC fiancee, Evelyn Thurber, but the two make slow progress in the search for tin. The natives are suspicious and unfriendly. The search seems hopeless.

Meanwhile, AWOL's quest for Stanhope seems equally futile. He must learn to fight the strange beasts of Australia -- the carabao, kangaroo, crocodile, and dingo. He finds no friends and fewer and fewer sources of food and water. He finally joins forces with a female dingo and the two dogs work their way valieantly onward in a bitter struggle for survival in a sinister land.

To many readers, the picture of the little-known interior of the Northern Territory of Australia will be new and startling. It is fierce and wild and menacing, peopled by superstitious natives.
