The content is useful about the fourteen celebrations picked with maps, little photographs, bars with occasion customs, and guidelines for an art or a formula make up the jam-pressed left-hand page of each spread. Engel's delineations show up on the contrary page and are itemized animation like representations.
This was a lovely book about holidays around the world. We used it as part of my sons homeschool curriculum and he especially enjoyed the projects and recipes included for each holiday. It’s bright and colorful and lovely to look at. Definitely recommend this book.
This was a really lovely and informative book! It was very interesting to learn either more about some holidays around the world with which I was already familiar, or to discover ones I'd never heard of before. I appreciated the history and explanations provided for each holiday, and that it includes activities or recipes associated with them, too. I think this would be a wonderful book for the classroom, so that children can broaden their understanding of the wider world and all the different t...
A look at cultural, religious, national, and seasonal celebrations from around the world with accompanying activity ideas. While many of these celebrations are well known worldwide, I hadn't heard of a couple of them. Each celebration just gets 2 pages, a paragraph or two of information, a few vocabulary words, and a suggested craft/activity/cooking idea. This was a great little cultural book and most of the activity ideas are very doable.

Joyful treatment of cultural celebration
Great facts, visually appealing, crafts and food info
What Do You Celebrate?: Holidays and Festivals Around the World is a children's picture book written by Whitney Stewart and illustrated by Christiane Engel. It is a collection of snippets of celebrations around the world.Stewart's text is rather simplistic and straightforward. The text is very informative about the fourteen festivals chosen with country maps, small photos, sidebars with holiday traditions, and instructions for a craft or a recipe make up the jam-packed left-hand page of each spr...
Although What Do You Celebrate? Holidays and Festivals Around the World is of course limited by its picture book format from being in any manner all encompassing, personally, I do think that author Whitney Stewart has definitely and appreciatively managed to be quite nicely inclusive and diverse (and truly featuring and showing celebrations and special festivals from all over the world and spanning the entire calendar year). And while some readers might well grumble a bit that in What Do You Cel...
A great introduction to the varied yet similar holidays and festivals across cultures and the world. Even if the celebration is not specific to your culture, the overlying message is that although we are unique, we are all connected by our similarities. It is a very inspiring and accessible book about diversity, acceptance and the human spirit. I highly recommend this book. It is so relevant and full of joy and jubilation. The accompanying illustrations are beautifully detailed and depict a wide...
This is a great book that discusses 14 different traditions throughout the world. This book is extremely important in our global society, but kids who aren't exposed to the world are at a disadvantage because it is necessary that we appreciate others way of life.I would use this book in elementary and middle aged schools because it exposes students to different countries and how people celebrate holiday's the same and maybe different from themselves. It allows them the opportunity to respect and...
At first I wasn't sure about this book. I like holidays and have no problem celebrating everything, whether, they are religious or secular... hey anything that involves food!I love that it talks about many different countries. I like that it has a craft with each celebration. My concern, there are some people who don't celebrate holidays for religious reasons. and some people may not celebrate because they struggle with holidays because it is associated with loved one passed or a better time. I...
I really enjoyed this book because it focuses on so many of the different holidays and festivals that are celebrated every year around the world. I find this especially important because a lot of people in the United States, myself included, have no idea that these different holidays exist. If adults aren’t even aware of the holidays that different cultures celebrate, how are children supposed to learn about them? This book would be an amazing tool to teach kids about the holidays and festivals
Learning and exploring special days from different parts of the world make this book an exciting adventure. The illustrations contain colorful examples of...

This book travels around the world looking at important holidays in different countries. Each one also has a recipe or a craft to make that goes along with the holiday along with information behind each celebration. Lots of fun!
This book discusses 14 teacher holidays and or festivity's and traditions in which families and people celebrate all around the world. I think this book is great to introduce to your students because it shows them and lets them take a glimpse at what some of their other classmates celebrate during the different holidays.
Readers are introduced to fourteen holidays celebrated in different countries around the world. Informative text along with word definitions and pronunciations explain the holidays for elementary level readers. A craft/game for each holiday is included for interaction too.
A fun book that talks about different holidays!
I really liked the structure of this. There's a blend of more commonly discussed holidays with some that are more specific/smaller, and none of the winter holidays are covered...most books of this type focus heavily on that season and either leave the rest of the year out or give a nod to it. The crafts/food/projects for each holiday all seem very doable and give a variety of things to try.I wish there had been some more specificity on which holidays are religious and which are not and which are...
