It was a great and engaging book, the author kind of got lost in himself and the universe he created. It just got to big to successfully create total characterization. But speaking of characterization, he did an awesome job. The audiobook is amazing and really brings the book to life. I'd recommend this book!
I love these books. And hardback, signed copies? I'm there.
Dennis E. Taylor's "Bobiverse" books are among my favorites.Bob finds himself the victim of a car crash to wake up, well, as a brain in a box so to speak. After some initial confusion and history, Bob finds himself rocketing across the stars as a 1-man, humanity-saving sentient von neumann probe! His first task - to make life onboard more bearable by making himself a virtual environment ... then, down to work to try and find a new home for humanity. And maybe make some clones of himself. Bill, M...
One of the best scifi books I've read in a long while. No senseless tech name dropping for magic things that just happen. Almost everything has a good explanation. Follows one easily relatable character, a nice software developer guy.
It is higher than 4 stars, but definitely not 5.Really fun and easy to read, good ideas, but the book is very shallow. It could have been as deep as The Three-Body Problem with all the themes it touched, instead it became a page-turner. It's not bad for sci-fi book to be action packed, but the potential was so much bigger.I loved the narrative and jumping between multiple points of view that are all the same person, but slightly different. It might evolve into a literary style of its own, like n...
I first heard about this book from a blog post my wife stumbled across. She described We Are Legion to me in a few words and I said that sounded interesting. A couple of weeks later, I unwrapped book 1 among Christmas presents. While my wife felt the story was bogged down by the assumed knowledge of scientific terms both real and imagined, I was hooked by the idea of humanity's last hope being a self replicating probe.I read all three books back to back and enjoyed each book of itself and as par...
You'll be adding "become a Von Neumann probe" to your bucket list.
This series is to date my favorite Sci-Fi series. It is like Stellaris the game. We start on earth and explore the universe and it's wonders without having to worry about the problems of human needs. It is just really interesting hearing of all the different planets he experiences. The encounters with other species are also very fascinating and portrait in a more grounded way compared to many high sci-fi settings. The species themselfs are not the star wars type not quite humans but feel more li...
