⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ this book is phenomenal. That fact that this is #alexmichaelides first novel is mind blowing to me. This book has plot twists galore and is told from multiple points of view. Every time I thought “I know!” Nope, wrong. #thesilentpatient Is an amazing #psychologicalthriller woven with love, betrayal, and mental health at its finest! Out 2•5•19! Thanks #celadonbooks for letting me read if first
What a promising start to the book, why would our heroine shoot her husband in the face five times then become mute? Enter Theo the psychotherapist to the rescue. Except Theo is dealing with his own issues and a bit of a pill. Renegade that Theo is, he breaks the rules of the psychiatric hospital in an attempt to save mute Alicia. Enter a cast of flat characters who are all interconnected and speak in sentences that could have been written by a talented 6th grader. The further I got into the boo...
What a teaser and what a book this promises to be !!I devoured this sampler and was lucky enough have also received the full book also so its straight on to that as it totally compulsive reading just reading the first few chapters and I can't wait.
This book was amazing! I loved the plot twists! Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen next BOOM, Alex Michalides "flipped the script" . I truly did not except the ending to turn out the way it did mlm Highly recommend this book if you love a great on the edge of your seat, page turning psychological thriller! I can't wait for more from this author!
I was entertained through and through.
The best plot twist I've ever read. The secret meanings behind all the amazing literacy still leaves me in shock, the characters are unique, and the author is truly grand in how he could think of such a way of writing a plot. The plot is interesting, intriguing, intimidating yet exciting, and it never fails to make you bored when reading. The whole story will surely leave you at a jaw-dropping end!
Sneak PeekI did not realise this was a sneak peak of a novel until I began reading. I want to read the entire story, so I will be looking to purchase or borrow the book in its entirety.
Great read!
What a book! This was SO Good, a page turner - cant put the book down & the twist!! Highly recommend!
I read this in 2 days. My head was swirling with ideas. Just when I thought I had figured it out…a twist! Good one!
Alicia Berenstone is a successful painter and absolutely adores her husband Gabriel. But one night, she ends up killing Gabriel in the most gruesome manner. She turns silent in the aftermath and ends up in a mental asylum after pleading madness in the court. As her last work of art before being sent to the asylum, she draws herself as Alcestis, the tragic protagonist of the play by Euripides, who is asked to die in place of her husband so that he may live. She is brought back to life but turns s...
I had a hard time keeping interested in this book and kept waiting for it to get better.....which for me it didn’t. There wasn’t a clear ending that tied everything together for me, and the ending was frustrating. I heard great things about this book and I really want med to like it but I just didn’t.
The Silent PatientI'm not going to rate 3 chapters. I wouldn't have read any of these chapters, if I knew. I really dislike samplez, I don't understand the point and it really frustrates me when I don't finish
This was a teaser from the publishers via Netgalley .. completely hooked and extremely relieved to have been approved for the complete book.Update - just finished the full book and LOVED IT will review on publication day but 4.5 big juicy stars from me
This book had so much hype, and I was thinking of it as the "It" book of the summer. My place on the library list was 146. It seemed so contrived, and while it had it merits, I found it very disappointing.
Read this very quickly today. I wanted to know what happened, what the mystery was.. It was a clever twist but somewhat unsatisfying for some reason. I think I felt manipulated by the author and not in a good way :)
I enjoyed this book! It captivated me from the beginning and keep me wanting to read more. I enjoyed the plot, characters and symbolism. It keep me wondering until the end! I’m excited to see what this authors writes next!!
Wow. Just wow
Reread for a refresher after giving to a friend.
2.5 stars. Entertaining but shallow writing. The twist felt a little cheap. As if the first half of the book was written by one person who had an initial idea of what they wanted from the story, they explained it to another person quickly in passing, and then THAT second person actually finished writing the book. It had a few plot holes and rushed scenes, and ultimately I felt manipulated by the author, but not in a good way. I don’t think I’d recommend this one.
Outstanding! It is without doubt one of the best novels of the first quarter of the 21st century. Engaging and full of betrayal, twists, turns, red herrings, irony and cunning. It is both dark and enlightening, both evitable and foreboding. It truly analyses the darker sentiments of humanity and forces one to consider the cunning of evil and its insidious nature. It's captivating from the start. I never saw the end coming!
Started off strong and definitely had me on the line for while. I was genuinely intrigued and it was an easy enough read, which is what I wanted since I am trying to get back into reading, but the last 50 pages or so definitely felt like a far fetched departure from the rest of the book. I still genuinely enjoyed most of the story, the end twist just felt a tad forced and homey, though interesting conceptually.Knowing that this is the authors first novel is very encouraging.
I read this in 1 day, I couldn't put it down. The major twist at the end had me jump up and scream whhhhaaat in the middle of work. Which isn't good because I actually work in Inpatient psych haha so it was really good and immediately went to lunch to finish it and not disturb my own patients. I highly recommend and immediately gave to my coworker to read! Great book!
One of my favorite books. I was incredibly intrigued the entire book and the plot twist at the end completely surprised me. I’m not often shocked or surprised in books. I frequently figure out the endings to books like this but this one truly got me. I was stunned. I read it in a couple of hours because I simply couldn’t put it down. Quick easy and GOOD read.
Alex Michaelides' first book, The Silent Patient is well researched and held my attention to the very end. I wouldn't call it a nail biting finish, but it did grip my interest as to the unraveling of events leading to the death of Alicia's husband. I was also interested in the psychotherapy details in the book and Michaelides' research on the subject satisfied that curiosity. Alicia's silence is compared to that of Alcestis' silence in Euripides's tragedy. Why does Alicia not speak? After this
all are not at fault, but every individual is selfish. Christ gain secret profit and ddeny to disclose the truth. Alicia's husband loves her and still cheats on her. all plays their part, but the one to suffer it is poor alicia
It started out promising and I was quite invested. However, I found most of the characters not likable and I guessed some of the “twist” a while before and held out to see how it would be tied together. Not bad but no place near my favorite.
When I started reading this book, I didn't know what to expect from the author as this was his debut novel. Alex didn't just raise the bar he blew the roof off. This book has everything from love, betrayal, obsession, suspense and even loyalty. The plot twist caught me unawares
I wish Goodreads would allow a zero stars rating because that's what this book deserves. A book full of ridiculous cliches and poor imagination. None of the characters were in any way believable and I couldn't care less about any of them. A waste of a book.
This book is so so worth all the hype. I literally recommended it to all the people I know, everyone should read it before they die. I truly never saw the plot twist coming, it was so shocking that I didn't recover for a whole week.
