Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sending this sampler in exchange for an honest review.I've been very curious about this book. Now after reading the first few chapters, I'm thrilled to read the rest. I was captured from the first page. The characters felt real and the plot intense. I can't wait to read more.
SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL!What a delicious sampler— 50 pages of wonderful. I was so excited when I learned the author was publishing a second book, as I adored The Silent Patient. Now I can.not.wait to read the whole fab novel. 5 of 5 Stars#The Maidens #NetGalleyThanks to the author, Celadon Books and NetGalley for the review copy. Opinions are mine.
Ever since I devoured The Silent Patient, I have been anxiously anticipating what Alex Michaelides would come up with next. He captivates from the first page and keeps the reader craving more as his psychological mind benders evolve. The first few chapters of the Maidens did not disappoint. Combining a troubled group therapist, a seemingly untouchable murderer and Greek mythology, Michaelides is pushing the limits of the common thriller makeup. I cannot wait to read it in it's entirety.#netgalle...
I enjoyed the tension of an introvert as therapist leading groups, of a therapist whose childhood and adolescence evoked classic separation and abandonment issues vis a vis a client whose childhood involved horrific enmeshed, and an opening scene of client crossing boundaries and very nearly going "too far." Whether this interest will carry through to the novel as a whole remains to be seen, though there are indications that this quiet introverted therapist may embark on a Hero's Journey to "sla...
This chapter sampler provides us with character background of Mariana before she is ultimately thrust into the mystery of The Maidens that the book centers around. It certainly is intriguing and I cannot wait to read the full book!
I was given The Maidens: Chapter Sampler to read from NetGalley . It is challenging to review a book with just a few sample chapters. There is an intriguing start to the book and I would recommend that if you are interested in Greek mythology, this could be a great read for you.
Can I say that this was such a teaser? I have been waiting for anything by Michaelides since I read The Silent Patient. I cannot wait to have this book in hand. (pre-ordered it already)Those chapters were captivating to read and I am already attached to the characters. Cannot wait to find out more and get the chance to properly talk about it.
Thank you Netgally and Celadon Books for the chance to read the chapter sampler of The Maidens.I have read Alex Michaelides previous mystery thriller, The Silent Patient, which was an amazing yet somewhat unbelievable read---The Maidens did not invoke the same feeling. The initial mystery as to what was happening with Mariana after the loss of her husband becomes a spiraling mess with each chapter. Young women are getting murdered on Cambridge campus and Mariana is certain that it's one of the ma...
“A nervous, edgy energy was in the air. A monster with a knife was among them, unseen, prowling the streets, apparently able to strike and then melt away invisibly into the darkness … His invisibility made him into something more than human, something supernatural: a creature born from a myth, a phantom.Except Mariana knew he wasn’t a phantom, or a monster. He was just a man, and he didn’t merit being mythologized; he didn’t deserve it.”If you loved Alex Michaelides’ breakout debut thriller, The...
Im definitely on a different zone that most readers here. This is becoming Obvious. This book is simply outstanding tho it is not simple. Its very complex and its unfolding is a journey into itself. Its is set in London and Cambridge at university. Mariane is our heroine and she is part Greek and now in London alone as her beloved husband Sebastian who wooed her at Cambridge when they were 19 has died in Greece. She is psychotherapist who specializes in group therapy. The tale in the present begin...
Some author's second books fail to stand up to the powerhouse of their first runaway novel but Alex Michaelides didn't suffer from this! The Maidens is full of twists and surprises. Wonderful writing and a trapdoor of a plot drops you in and doesn't let go until the final page.
Really a different book - good exploration of obsession and psychological issues. Not a favorite book of mine, but the end did have a good twist to it. I did not guess the secret.
TeaseGood tease to get you to buy the book but I'm not into these kinds of tricks! Will probably but the book anyway! LOL
Mind twist, im speechless! Alex is now my favorite author! I love how he manages to intertwined the silent patient into this book! He is just have an incredible mind!
I'm giving this a 3 instead of a 2 because I just loved The Silent Patient. It just didnt all come together as a satisfying read. I won't go into details due to spoilers.
Didn't pay enough attention when I purchased this. Disappointed it is a sampler. The Maidens: Chapter Sampler (Kindle Edition)
certainly had the unusual twist we expected of this author. It was a compelling read. my all-time favorite will always be Silent patient
" I could feel a fire burning--a rising anger, a rage that would not go out. I knew it was wrong--I knew I should curb it before it overwhelmed me. But instead, I fanned the flames. And I burned."Chilling words from the killer in The Maidens by brilliant author Alex Michaelides. In one of the most anticipated books of the summer we are treated to a psychological thriller full of Greek tragedy, lost loves, and a very disturbed soul.Mariana is a group therapist dealing with her own depression when...
4.5 stars. Very good. Well written and a page turnet.
This is a review of the book, not a 5 chapter excerpt but I could figure out how to change the title. This was a fun enough read if you like twisty mysteries. The ending was a bit of a “huh?” I am still not sure who wrote the letters about the abusive childhood. The characters could have been developed more. I really did’t care much for them. And about two thirds of the way through, I had figured out what was going to happen even though it was illogical.
The Maidens is going to break the internet when it is released. I know personally that i searched far and wide and stopped at nothing to get my hands on a copy and it was well worth it. Alex Michaelides is hands down one of my favorite authors. His style is gripping and I instantly become obsessed within the first chapter. The Silent patient is still a book I recommend to anyone who will listen! Lets just start out with the cover. Stunning, gorgeous and grabs your attention. I am not into Greek
I have been looking forward to the next book from Alex Michaelides since reading The Silent Patient, a thriller that I really enjoyed and shared with book club friends. I appreciate the chance to read these early chapters via NetGalley and Celadon Books. The early chapters are engaging and have me looking forward to reading the rest of this sure to be popular summer book. The chapters suggest a fast paced, engaging, and twisty thriller. I mean the first sentence alone "Edward Foscaca was a murde...
🌟🌟 𝟝-ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕡𝕥𝕖𝕣 𝕊𝕒𝕞𝕡𝕝𝕖𝕣 ℝ𝕖𝕧𝕚𝕖𝕨 🌟🌟I've just finished the 5-chapter sampler I got from @netgalley and it was mind-blowingly intense. I still need to read the entire book to write an overall, honest review, but so far the first five chapters I was offered are making me determined to preorder the book. I read Michaelides's the Silent Patient and it was a five-star read. I also participated in a competition reviewing the Silent Patient several months ago and I got third place, so the book was a good one...
I've read a few chapters of The Maidens thanks to Netgalley and I can't wait to talk about how amazing it is. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *We have as the main character Mariana who is called to Cambrige to find out who the killer is at that school, as it has already claimed a few lives, and boy did it start off so interesting as she tells us who "is the killer".Mariana gets into that role as a kind of "detective" so well that you might even think that the clues that...
I've received first 5 sample chapters for advanced proof reading. From what I get, I would say the new book was in equal writing style from Alex' The Silent Patient. The chapters are in reasonable writing length and easy to read. Just like his old book, Alex lays out all the characters and potential story lines in parallel and I would guess you won't know the real truth till the end of the book. Never enough for 5 chapters advanced proof reading, can't wait for the publication day. Strong recomm...
Thank you NetGalley and Celadon books for the chapter summary of the first 5 chapters of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. This is one of the most anticipated books of 2021 among thriller lovers. The first few chapters did not disappoint and I look forward to being able to finish the book. Mariana is a very relatable character who is grieving her dead husband and rushes to help a family member. The story takes off and is fast paced and I can’t wait to finish it when given the chance. I...
I cannot wait to get my hands on the full book. This author has an awesome way of reeling the reader in on the first few pages. I was unable to quit reading this sampler. The main character, Mariana is a widowed group therapist who gets a call from Zoe. Zoe is convinced that her friend, Tara has been murdered and Mariana agrees to go to Cambridge to investigate. That’s where the sampler ends. I loved, “The Silent Patient”, by this author and I can tell already I’m going to love this book just as...
I enjoyed reading Alex Michaelides first book - The Silent Patient, enough that I am interested in reading more of his work, so was very pleased when the announcement of The Maidens was made. Already there is the same amount of hype for this book as there was for the Silent Patient and judging by the first couple chapters given in this sampler the hype seems to be justified. Looking forward to getting my copy of The Maidens when the book is released on June 15th
I need to know more....who did they find by the water? Who is Edward Fosca? Why does it feel like Henry is going to do/has done something bad? All of these questions need to be answered. This chapter sampler of The Maidens was fast paced and intriguing. I can not wait until this book comes out to find out what happens!
After reading an excerpt of The Maidens by Alex Michaelides, I am hooked! Mariana, a therapist, runs group therapy meetings in her home. The characters in a group are introduced in these first few chapters, and are suitably idiosyncratic. I look forward to this book’s publication in mid-June to dive into the rest of the story!
