She went through a horrific childhood with parents with untreated mental illnesses.
She has overcome many obstacles in her life from the very beginning. Born 11 weeks early, she was never supposed to make it, but somehow she did.
Her mother suffered from mental illnesses like Munchhausen by proxy and severe depression. Her mother took advantage of her daughter’s poor health as an infant and started to use her as a proxy.
As she got older, she started to see things happening in her family that scared and confused her.
She credits raising goats with saving her sanity as they were a comfort to her in the midst of a chaotic home life.
If it weren't for her love for goats she would have committed suicide.
After 20 years of being a proxy, she finally was able to break free from the abusive cycle of her family.
She thought that was all she needed until she realized her mental health wasn’t getting better after she had moved far away from it all.
Turns out, she not only had depression and anxiety with suicidal thoughts and tendencies but she also had C-PTSD. (Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a condition that results from chronic or long-term exposure to emotional trauma over which a victim has little or no control and from which it is little or no hope of escape.
With the help of caring friends and the love of her husband, she is now well on the road to healing and recovery.
Winter is committed to helping others escape the traumatic effects of mental illness through education, self-care and mindfulness, and to let them know they are not alone.
