Jamed and Wendy Davis are becoming bored with and disillusioned by the Funeral Home business. About the time Janie is born, they notice a small ad in the paper about something new called au Club de la Résurrection. . This organization is based in Bern Switzerland and its purpose is to research and develop, over the next twenty years, the necessary technology to return the dead to life. Jamed and Wendy are intrigued and obtain literature from the group explaining that they are assembling the world’s most brilliant minds to come together in Bern to devise the process—but, they need money. A lot of it. They offer the Davises membership in the club and the honor of being among the first subjects to be resurrected for the mere sum of one million dollars, to be paid in monthly installments over the next twenty years, as which time they will report to Bern to be voluntarily and legally euthanized, and then immediately resurrected. Any children that enter the picture will be included in this deal as well, and for them the process will be free of charge.
