One-thousand years after the collapse of civilization, organized communities are re-emerging. Yuchi, a community known for its Messenger Services, has just received a request for a message delivery from an unknown people in the dangerous and prohiited southern coastal regions. Although Sheriff Bodie understands this delivery will more than likely result in the death of his chosen messenger, the Council will be hard to sway against moving forward considering the price the unknown community is willing to pay. His only way out is to pick the most expendable messenger, Shiff, who would rather stay at home watching birds, drinking ginseng tea, and secretly growing and smoking cannabis. Shiff may not be the best messenger or runner in the service, but he has other skills to use as he embarks upon a journey where he will discover the truth about the fall of civilization and the people who were left behind to ensure that it endures. But most importantly, Shiff will discover secrets about himself, and be left with the decision regarding the future of humanity.
