Over too soonThe saddest part about this book isnt the tragedy that strikes, or the challenges that occur. It's finishing the book and realising that I have to wait for the next one. This is a fantastic series, start at the first book and read through, you will not be disappointed.
Middle book syndrome, not sure how to rate.Honestly equally enjoyed and was disappointed by this entry.Suffers from the same as book 4 but even more so sadly, which might be a case of being the "middle book" but might also just be the style has changed. Too much fragmentation of the narrative: we get a great many litte short story scenes that don't add much, and then are later re-addressed in the main narrative which makes the side those short stories seem like wasted time. Perhaps these worked
This series continues to deliver and sits right next to Defiance of the Fall at the top of the gamelit genre for me. This is especially impressive considering how I felt the story hit a slump in Book 3. I was worried that the plot would take a turn for the worse and maybe even jump the shark in Book 4, but instead, we entered a very solid story arc that is one of my favorites in the series.I can't wait to see where the next book takes things!
Rating 5.0 stars - Series. This continues to be one of the best epic litrpg books in recent years. It is right up there with Defiance of the fall. That book has a lot more just fun action and this one has a much more in depth story. Everything changes in this one. The EOA have made their plans and magic is now known to the world. Not just that but what they did may have made it so the world is destroyed much quicker than was originally thought. Jason and his friends are out to stop that from ha...
Only going with a four because I like the series. But this was by far the weakest entry it really just felt all over the place and honestly like a waste of time I really didn’t feel that the plot progressed any further than the last book only just some events happened and even the bad events didn’t leave a lasting impression because it did nothing to advance the story, it felt like ties were cut so they didn’t have to be considered in the future. Overall it looks like the next book will actually
funny and philosophicalI love this series. Some fun stuff, but also some hard hits. Also, several people remark on the more annoying parts of the MC’s character. Now, we wait for 6.
The first half of the book seemed more like a normally structured story. That is, instead of simply a series of nearly continuous melees (whether to just stay alive, win a contest or achieve level-up), there is an actual goal to be achieved. And that goal requires diplomacy (not usually Jason’s strong suit) just as much as it requires melee and magic skills. I liked this first half. Also, there’s the usual humorous banter, and Jason is a less full of himself (and so perceived as much more likeab...
3.5 starsThere's a strong metaphorical undercurrent in this story. Earth's powerful are depicted mining the pillars of reality to make themselves stronger, despite this leading to the destruction of the world. Sound familiar? If you're a climate change denier then you'll probably wonder why we're supposed to hate the powers that be, otherwise, you'll probably get a little depressed. This book finishes on a cliff-hanger, which I know triggers some people. Beware.
