Introduction from the Author

IÂ’ve found most people are quite envious when I tell them I go to Rollins; particularly those from the Northeast, forced to trudge to class through the snow. People who know nothing about the school, save its location, will often ask if I spend the day at the pool or go on class field trips to Disney World. Mentioning Rollins tends to conjure up the image of a serene country club, with students lounging in the sun. However, having a beautiful campus and gorgeous weather does not make Rollins any less academically focused, and though most students love the pool, busy schedules make it hard to simply sunbathe the day away.

Rollins College is an accomplished liberal arts school with dedicated faculty and a committed student body. The college continually ranks among the top universities in the South, and is increasingly gaining recognition across the nation. Graduating from Rollins insures a strong degree in any major, and students leave with a broad liberal arts foundation that will help them in any field of choice.

Though Rollins certainly has recognition, it still seems like a lot of people are not familiar with it. When I told most of my friends where I had decided to go to college, they gave a look of confusion, having never heard of the school before. One reason many people have never heard of Rollins is purely due to its small size. Rollins is a school of only about 1,700 students. This is not a drawback, however, as the small size of Rollins provides each student with individual recognition and creates a personal atmosphere; here, you are never a number.

Finding a college that fits your needs both socially and academically is the key to making the right college choice. Rollins has a lot to offer, which I hope this book conveys, but ultimately, you must determine whether you can see yourself here for four years. Certainly this is not an easy question to answer, but gaining a greater understanding of your potential choice is the first step to reaching a decision you will be happy with.
