Fuck it. I'm doing a review...because, well, this story has stuck with me. I loved it. The author has stated that this was his attempt of recreating Richard Laymon's "The Woods Are Dark". You did it Gerlach, you did it buddy. I loved this book....loved it.!
A fast paced and entertaining horror novel.
Steve Gerlach does it again as far as I'm concerned. Thus far I've read "Lake Mountain", "Love Lies Dying" and this one and all of them have achieved the maximum rating from me. "The Nocturne" is an adrenaline rush from start to finish in the style of Richard Laymon who he openly says is his major influence relating to his writing. To go a step further - Mr. Gerlach is as good as the late Richard Laymon was and I hope that he continues to write novels that I can enjoy for years to come.
Steve Gerlach is a huge Richard Laymon fan and with The Nocturne he has written a Laymon book. Turns out Spoiler Alert; it’s all about Government experiments with resurrection and mind control revved up with lashings of blood and guts deep in the Washington State Hills. It’s a massive tome that never lets up. The action is thick and fast with the odd ludicrous situation but that is irrelevant because the story is so compelling. A fine effort by an unsung Aussie.
