This book has great charisma, humor, charm and poetry. It works on so many levels. The metaphor of the father as a dinosaur is so touching and humorous at the same time. He's so lovable and scary, so protective and so busy, so gruff and yet so wonderful. Hats off to the author and illustrator for working so beautifully together.
Great book, hilarious, touching and PERFECT for Father's Day. All about a too-busy but loving dad who is literally and figuratively larger than life-- isn't every dad like that really a t-rex? The pictures are full of subtle and funny details. Reviewer below is the lame-o. There are so many bad dinosaur books out there-- finally, a wonderful one! I don;t even mind re-reading it over and over (and over)
Another beautifully illustrated and fun children's picture book showing that dads come in all shapes and sizes!
Tobias' dad is just like other dads. He is big, eats meat, works hard, collects joke books. But there is one thing that separates him from the rest---he is a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Tobias doesn't have to be scared of spiders, monsters, annoying salesmen, or strangers with a T-Rex for a dad but he does wish his dad worked less. Tobias is worried that his dad will not come to his school's field day because he is always working but his dad surprises him. What can be cooler than having your Tyrannosauru...
Very sweet book for summertime, and for father's day. Am putting together all the books I know that are best for various holidays. This one gets my vote for dad's special day, but is nice for baseball and dinosaur lovers year round. Big bold illistratiuons by Matthew Myers who also illustrated the robot book Clink. (But there are no robot holidays I am aware of.)
Terrific new picture book, potential classic. Has humor, tenderness, great pictures.
The dinosaur loving boys will love this. But I didn't.
cool book, gloriously funny. Possible Caldecott material? See Swirl By Swirl, White Rabbit, The Watcher, other choices.
OK. Not what I expected at all. Not sure if this is what I'm looking for in my Father's Day preschool storytime. Display for certain. Not sure what else to say on this book, so, there you go.
great book for Father's Day!
This was a cute little story. It did a nice job of showing love between family members and what family members will do for each other because they love each other. Plus, it also has a dinosaur in it and I love dinosaurs and I think most children do too, so I think they would be interested in that as well.
Of course I love it! Awesome illustrations.
Nice book, lots of fun to read out loud
terrific book. love the eye-popping cover, easy to find this one on my shelf! Great for reading aloud to little ones. Funny not scary dinosaur, mostly it's a book about family. Nice for baseball lovers, good book for summer, great book for father's day and fathers.
Tobias's father is a forty-feet long, fifteen-feet high Tyrannosaurus who's usually too busy working to pay much attention to his son's school functions. Although he clearly loves his son, Tobias longs for him to work a little less and play a little more. When he shows up at the school's field day and agrees to be the umpire for the game against the Chickenbone Gang, Tobias is thrilled. Not only does he save the day since the regular umpire is sick, but once it begins raining, he provides shelte...
Tremendous book, sort of a companion to Rosenberg's earlier book Monster Mama, another family favorite. That one was perfect for mother's day, this one is perfect for father's day. Newcomer Matt Myers is awesome, this is a great pairing of hilarious story and pictures, full of color, energy, lots of fun. T Dad is a tough, scary, carniverous, hard-working dad. Tobias is your average human kid who just wants dad's time and attention. Add a big baseball game, a thunderstorm, a few would-be bullies
The ultimate father son picture book. Dads a workaholic cranky big tough guy who tells corny jokes. He's also a tyrannosaurus Rex... What else? Great comic story and pictures from Matt Myers. My new favorite picture book team.
This is a humorous story with very bold and colorful illustrations about a young boy trying to get his day to take a break from work and spend time with him. It just so happens that his dad is also a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Very strange, but entertaining. We enjoyed reading this together and I would imagine this book will be a big hit with young boys.
No resemblance at all between father and son. Good, silly fun.
Great lively book for the dinosaur loving crowd. I loved it too! Nice subtle message here about family ties. Amazing illustrations and well written.
