iTornado Experience

Chris Hill
0/5 ( ratings)
For the last three years, authors Chris and Lauren Hill have been tracking severe weather systems, supercells, mesocyclones, and tornadoes with many of the top atmospheric researchers from around the world.

They traveled with Vortex 2 in 2009 and 2010, and were involved with the Center for Severe Weather Research in 2011. Chris and Lauren contributed to the efforts of Academy Award Nominated film producer Sean Casey for his IMAX film about ‘Tornado Alley.’

There are many books written about tornadoes, but only this one takes you beyond reading to experiencing the storm. Click on one of the book’s many video links and see what you’re reading explode onto the screen. Or tap on the NWS doppler radar links and watch a storm in your area.

Reading the book at home, you can see if a severe storm, tornado warned cell, local flooding, lightning or hail may be coming your way.  With internet access, just click on one of the numerous meteorological links to see a Doppler view of weather near you and watch a loop of the storm’s motion.  This interactive book promotes situational awareness, and can help warn you to take shelter, if needed.

Perhaps you’ll see a storm develop and then get ‘severe’ or ‘tornado’ warned through you local Weather Channel TV affiliate. You could even receive an emergency call by a reverse-911 to your cell phone about a severe weather pattern that you've already spotted through a radar application link.  In the book, discover web links to wind resistant building construction, a list of storm shelter companies, as well as tornado chase tour companies.

Or just enjoy reading the book with your family and viewing a link to a storm simulation in the safety of your living room.

Chris and Lauren are members of the American Meteorological Society , SkyWarn and Spottern Net certified storm trackers. They are currently working on a documentary about the science of tornadic storms.

Chris provided Vortex 2 documenatry footage to Cortina Productions for inclusion in the Smithsonian Science Storms exhibit.
