The more I read, the more I like Pollar’s adventures!
I wasn't sure how they'd continue the story of Black Kaiser but this book totally made sense as a continuation. It wasn't quite as elegant as the first volume but it's still a great story with beautiful action and a strong story at its core.
Second in the Polar series. This is another adventure of Black Kaiser and his new apprentice. It is good and the story is fun.
Like Genndy Tartakovsky on a fuckton’a molly, Victor Santos serves up another short, but violently sweet little ditty about a girl that’s out for a little revengeance. Just like in Santos’s "Polar: Came From The Cold”, the artwork takes center stage. Amazing black, white, and red layouts from cover to cover. Victor pushes this trimmed down color palate to the limit and is able to create some uniquely amazing stuff reminiscent of Frank Miller’s early (and superior) Sin City work. The story is a n...
Pretty visuals had no idea this was second in the series. Extremely basic plot with no surprises.
Very violent, much more bloody than the first volume, but not lacking in the story.
One part KILL BILL one part THEY CALL HER ONE EYE one part THRILLER and every female revenge all rolled into one and this is what you get. Not too original in story. You've seen it most likely done better and more detailed before. Seems more aimed at the younger generation. As it cuts to the chase. Not to deep and immediately sets forth into the action. It's nothing new, but keeps your interest especially if you are into these kind of tales. No real shock supposedly it is soon to be adapted into...
Another super stylized, action packed, visually entertaining comic, I love what Victor Santos brings to the medium, it's refreshing and it's his own despite the influence from Frank Miller. I can't wait to check his entire bibliography after enjoying these two volumes. Can't wait.
A quick tale of revenge from a slight girl left for dead. The art is heavily influenced by the latter work of Frank Miller and Jeff Smith. There's also two back up stories featuring the Black Kaiser.
The Black Kaiser takes in a murder victim who miraculously survives her murder attempt and forges her into an unstopppable assassin so she can wreak bloody revenge. Unfortunately, there are no surprises here, nor is any of the action ever carried out with enough verve to make it all worthwhile.
"An eye for an eyea tooth for a toothvote for me and I'll set you free..."~Ball Of Confusion -The Temptations
Elegant artwork (almost as gorgeous and bloody as in the first volume) is definitely the best part of this "sequel". Black kaiser does make an appearance, but the spotlight goes to the innocent girl turned into a badass killer in a quest for revenge. Not a very original plot, but it's pretty effective and enjoyable. 3.5/5 stars(I just love it how the protagonist also has an eyepatch so we don't lose track of her)
La que se venga ahora es una peculiar discípula de Black Kaiser. Siguen las viñetas frenéticas que son un lujo para la vista.
With artwork that recalls Frank Miller and Jeff Smith with a touch of Steranko, and a noir story that is incredibly basic, I couldn't help but be a little disappointed. Not as good as his influences.
I had to change the rating of the first instalment after reading this one... wow "Eye for an Eye" is, again as the first volume, a very crude and dark tale. It is a real page turner though... Both the narration and the art have deeply evolved. Longer dialogues and more detailed illustrations have on stage now.The black kaiser has little to do with this chapter of the story, Christi is the real main character... her background story, her hatred, her anger are the backbone of her revenge and t...
Another fun entry that finds a new character, Christy White, rescued in the frozen north after a vicious attack, only to receive training to take out her revenge. Like the first book, Santos keeps the dialogue simple, mostly focusing on his noirish and bloody art, which is a gorgeous mix of black, white and red. Also like the first book, its a very quick read but fun nevertheless, thus worth picking up.
This was better than the first one but still lacking. I was really disappointed that it really has nothing to do with the black kaiser.
I was mildly enthusiastic about the first volume, but take everything good from that volume (the art) and add a good story and you've got a winner. And that winner is Eye for an Eye, the second volume in the Polar series. I enjoyed this tremendously... our heroine is supposed to be dead, but gets rescued by a stranger. As she recovers, she is preparing herself for revenge by making use of the stranger's training. Blood drips off the pages, think Kill Bill style, but never loses its classiness......
Liked it better than volume 1. I also found the comic more readable, a better graphics experience.
