My choices for Favorite Female Athletes are as personally diverse as the sports they've played. All of my favorite females are different and serve as excellent ambassadors for their respective sport.

Featured females include a pig-tailed gymnast, a pony-tailed soccer star and a super-middleweight boxing champ with braids.

All of my picks are great role models, including one athlete whose career away from the hardwood included modeling for the famed Wilhemina Agency.

One is a tiny Russian who back-flipped and tumbled tirelessly in her sport and another is a tall Southern Californian native who scored and became the first to dunk effortlessly in hers.

Two are tennis players. They emerged during different eras and proved dissimilar in every conceivable fashion - except for the way they easily prevailed over opponents.

My oldest choice was a stay-at-home housewife from Europe. She flew around international track and field events with the same power and speed as two newer stars did on soccer pitches continents away.

Perhaps the best female athlete of all-time includes a woman whose greatest accomplishment took place away from the track. This remarkable woman overcame an otherwise debilitating physical condition to become a multiple Olympic gold medalist and World Champion in two different track and field events.

All are sleek and strong. Each is poised and purposed and an undisputed champion in her sport.

In addition to these notable individuals and their athletic accomplishments I cite in my book, my top choice will surprise you. It's dedicated to the ultimate game-changer in women's sports.

Without it, many of today's most talented female athletes may never have gotten the chance to compete like their male counterparts.

It broke down doors and opened up entrances that previously did not exist in sports for countless women.

In this book, I group together all the nameless female athletes in soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, swimming, basketball, softball, track, golf, tennis, etc. under the umbrella of this groundbreaking legislation.
