Tokyo 1991 - 2011 Girls in Motion

All of these girls, they have their names. I know many of them. 
Some I’ve even interviewed, and learned extensively
of their life histories. Needless to say,
all of these girls have their own lives to live,
 and it soon became obvious to me that there’s simply
no such thing has a clear-cut, happy life.
 And all the girls that I’ve shot around the city,
they too have names. But I don’t know them.
They probably don’t even know I’ve taken a snapshot of them. 
Yet to think: each of these girls have homes to return to,
parents, perhaps even lovers.  They all carry their unique burdens.  
But these things remain unseen in the photographs.  
What you see is an encounter, as conscious as it is chance. 
The intersection of time and space.
A CROSSROAD. A record of a fleeting impression I had. 
At that very moment, in that very place.

少女たちには、皆名前がある。 この少女たちの多くは、その名前を僕は知っている。
 なかにはインタビューして人生を根掘り葉掘り聞いた少女もいる。
 当然のように彼女たちにもそれぞれの人生があり、
単純に幸福な人間なんていないといった、 当たり前のことを知ることになる。
 街でスナップした少女たちにだって名前はある。でも僕は彼女たちの名前を知らない。 
彼女たちは撮られていることさえ気づいていないだろう。
 そんな彼女たちにも、家に帰れば親がいて、
もしくは恋人がいたりとやはり悩みを抱えている。 
でも、そんなことは写真には写っていない。写っているのは、
意識的にせよ偶然にせよ、 時間と空間が交わるCross Roadで、 
僕がその時、その場所で撮った表面的な記録だけだとういうことだ。
