After four years of relentless slaughter, the Great War is finally over. Soon, the men will be coming home, those of them who are left alive. Many hundreds of thousands are dead and will never come home. And there is at least one who is numbered among the dead but still comes home.
Private Stephen Drake is officially listed as killed in action. There are witnesses, people who saw him die, blown apart in an artillery barrage. There are also people who saw him after that, after the armistice, still wearing his uniform, in the hills above his home town on the Welsh marches.
Who is right?
Are the reports of his death a mistake? If they are, how and why has he returned home without leave? And if Drake is truly dead, who is the soldier in the hills and why is he there?
Or is there a third possibility that no one wants to hear about? What if there are no mistakes? What if Private Drake is dead but has still come home?
In that case this would be a ghost story... possibly.
