Freedom Street

Freedom Street

Barbara Whitnell
4.5/5 ( ratings)
The 17th Century.

Charlotte Bonnet is just eleven years old, fleeing religious persecution in France, when she witnesses the death of Madame Fabien in childbirth.

It is an event that will change the course of Charlotte’s life forever.

Terrified of suffering the same fate, Charlotte refuses to consider marriage and dreams instead of creating a life of her own, of working for herself.

But Charlotte cannot refuse her suitors forever, and when a wealthy widower asks for her hand, Charlotte knows she must accept eventually.

It is only when her fiancé's horrifying past is revealed that Charlotte can bring herself to ask for help.

And help does come, in form of Gabriel Fabien himself, now too a wealthy widower and with his child, Elise, in tow.

Gabriel needs a wife for himself, and a mother for his daughter.

Charlotte needs a husband.

The two strike up a deal.

But with Gabriel’s sudden moods and the appearance of another witness from that same night, Paul Bellamy, whose smile and good humour are a temptation Charlotte must struggle to resist.

In Freedom Street secrets will be revealed and hearts will be broken…
