The Nymphs of Phalasarna

The Nymphs of Phalasarna

Panagiotis Sparis
1/5 ( ratings)
The main hero of the novel, Alexis, plagued by a serious coronary disease decides to spend his summer vacations in the island of Crete the birthplace of Zeus, king of the Olympian Gods, avoiding the cosmopolitan and potentially dangerous for his heart condition Aegean islands of Santorin, Mykonos, or Rhodes. On his way to Crete via ferry, he befriends Athena an attractive young archeologist from Harvard who is visiting the Chania prefecture in Crete and specifically the modern town of Falasarna to continue her excavations at the site of Ancient Falasarna.
Falasarna was one of the ancient Cretan cities lost in the annals of History after its utter destruction by the Roman legions during the expedition of Pompey Magnus against the Mediterranean pirates. Athena hopes to uncover the mystery that surrounds the fate of Ancient Falasarna and hopefully also discover the mythical treasure of the city lost during the siege of the city by the Roman fleet. Her radically different theory she reveals is that the new Falasarna was built by the Romans as naval depot using the female captives as sailor prostitutes.
During this sea voyage a romance develops between Athena and Alexis that quickly turns into a fiery affair that pushes Alexis despite his heart problems to follow his mate to a local romantic bungalow Inn owned be a dynamic Cretan woman named Calypso and her beautiful but mysterious young daughter Artemis. However the following day, when Athena is going to the dig site to continue her excavations, Alexis is seduced by Calypso who then claims he has cured him with a magic potion and will probably live forever if he continues this sex therapy.
Alexis rather disturbed by this strenuous erotic atmosphere decides to seek shelter in the local grocery store where a nosy store keeper discloses that both Athena and Calypso are murderous sex maniacs that kill and discard the bodies of their victims in a nearby cape where great white sharks lurk since the bloody slaughter of the Falasarna male residents and pirates by the Romans.
When Athena returns, Alexis becomes aware that not only she is aware of his brief affair with Calypso, but also endorses her audacious claim that in this Inn all the guests and owners have the right to share whoever they fancy. Perplexed by this claim he visits the local store to get provisions, but a strange shopkeeper who claims Calypso and Athena are vicious enchantresses who kill their exhausted lovers and are responsible for the drowning of two young men last spring and offers to tell Alexis his destiny.
Alexis even though he pays no close attention to her vicious gossip, he tries to mine more information about Athena and Calypso and especially Artemis who is playing this curious hide and seek game with him.
Returning to the Inn he faces the rejection of Athena who prefers to retire and become intimate with Calypso. After this shocking experience he returns frustrated to the grocery owner who now claims that not only Athena and Calypso are witches but also her young daughter is not an innocent virgin as Calypso claims. To gain the store keeper trust he submits to her advances with the promise that she will explain this charade the next day during the festivities of the local Christian deity Saint Elias.
This bold point of view excites the imagination of Alexis who seeks to uncover the mystery of Calypso’s virgin daughter who is constantly missing from the compound to go spearfishing. Athena allows him to use her site surveying drone and overflying the perilous cape, they both witness a naked girl chasing away a great white shark with the help of a school of dolphins.
To calm down his suspicions, the two women invite him for an orgy that slowly is transformed into a mystic experience with him blindfolded and tied with handcuffs to the bedposts and another mysterious but even wilder woman who leaves him utterly exhausted and ready
