Better then expected. Promising story and character, nothing extraordinary so far, but for a first issue it's looking good. A mix between Harry Potter and The Magicians (probably closer to a soft middle age Magicians series).
Harry Potter, is that you?
This is:--A clumsy reboot.--A book with TERRIBLE art.--A book with terrible pacing & terrible dialogue.--A book written by someone who never read any of the previous series, but just wanted to write Harry Potter fan-fiction if Harry was Neville Longbottom (as Lev Grossman did in "The Magicians" but there replacing Harry with Draco Malfoy). --A book written by someone who, due to not reading any of the previous series, assumed this was supposed to be about literal books that are literally magical...
Books of MagicPlot: It all starts with Timothy Hunter meeting a group of magicians who show him magic, other worlds, and the end of time. They then tell him to make a choice. He either has to choose magic or go back to the life he once knew. Of course, he chooses magic, and he wakes up daydreaming about it in class. One of the students. After class, Tim tries to impress a girl named Ellie with his magic. Only to find he has none. Tyler (another student) teases him and before you know it a fight
Está bien. Bastante plano para comenzar la serie pero promete. Si llega a tener un mínimo del nivel que manejó el guión de Neil Gaiman en el original va a ser genial, pero por ahora parece una historia como mucho entretenida. Habrá que ver.
A skillful setup, lovely art and a compelling premise. I’m totally hooked.
I picked up this series because its cover is screaming "Harry Potter". More over the word "magic" caught me too. But I think this was too much of a plain issue for starting the series. Anyway, it's not that similar to Harry Potter. It's just the cover which gave me that vibes along with teeny tiny things in comic. Protagonist, Tim, has to find books which will teach him the magic he is destined to. I must say, the protagonist doesn't look much similar to that of cover. Tell me if I'm wrong:I'm i...
I have not read anything from the previous series. But it won't stop me from reading this one. Good start, looking forward to the rest of the series.
Well I didn’t read the original series, but when I was looking for the book to post here I saw the original was from the early 90sI’m assuming with a similar if not identical plotI feel like I’ve heard the story before though...maybe five years laterMuch more enjoyable this time around by an author I actually likeTake a look at the variant covers for yourself and tell me you don’t recognize this guy
If you've read original books about Tim than you know that they are very detailed account of his importance for the universe, and the magical realm. This books can be seen as a sort of sequel but I prefer to see them as a new beginning. New beginnings can be tough. This is no different. We'll see where it will lead.
Absolutely loved this series as a boy, looking forward to diving back into Tim’s world. The art is gorgeous.
Too rushed. I suppose it Does assume a lot of knowledge from the existing universe and the artwork is really good. Maybe a little Harry Potter-ish? Even so, for someone approaching this universe with no context and I actually thought this was Neil Gaiman's "Books of Magic", to be honest, so this review Is to be taken with a pinch of salt - but, it's only an average first impression.
I read the original series of this book many years ago and felt that the story was pretty well wrapped up at the time so I was interested to see where this book would pick up the story. It is an inevitable reboot but none the worst for that in my opinion. The story has definitely caught my interest and I will continue with the second volume in due course.
I understand it's odd to judge the comic when its first chapter is this short, but I can't help myself. The main character... Why the artist decided on such weird face expression for him? I can't sympathize or feel sorry for him, because he has this expression of annoyed discontent.I don't look like that all the time, is that why I am not a mage? :)
Comme on pouvait s'en douter vu la couverture, ce comics à l'air de cibler les fan d'Harry Potter. Pour l'instant ça fonctionne
So this seems to wipe out all previous Tim Hunter comics and take us right back to the beginning, which isn't totally a bad thing because I remember most of it as being distinctly 'meh'. The fact that they've never been completely collected in tpb form has always spoken volumes. The main negative of this new run is, for me, the art. It really worked for the recap, that was great, but it didn't work for the rest of it. Tim looks angry most of the time and slightly podgy, instead of scrawny. I'm n...
I havent read the original series but this just felt like a different take on Harry Potter. I know this originally came out prior to Harry Potter but I unfortunately or fortunately depends on the way you look af it, read HP first as a boy. Its a cool simple story. Has a good ability of dialgoue and art. The art is great, just wish Tim did look so much like Harry.
There isn't much going on in this volume, but it does a nice job setting up the story. I'm interested to see where it's headed.
Great art and good story...I don't love this kid. But...I like it
good one
