Ninety percent of the area's population are home owners, and nine tenths of the population is white, one - tenth Negro. The foreign-born percent is negligible. The native-born labor potential is good, and the people widely-recognized as the best type of workers, with special skills in hosiery, cotton textiles and woodworking industries.

The climate is most agreeable, with seasonal averages: Spring 56 degrees, Summer 74 degrees, Autumn 57 degrees and Winter 50 de grees. The average rainfall is inches. The' elevation is 993 feet.

Transportation facilities are excellent, and this community is served by the main line of the Southern Railway, the C N W Railroad, Queen City Bus Company, conover-newton Bus Lines, and Piedmont Airlines in nearby Hickory. More than 20 motor express lines serve the com munity.
