Just as funny as the last one. The steam stepped up a bit, too - there wasn't any sexual tension as such, but I love the relationships between the characters. Can't wait for Book 3![Blog] - [Bookstagram]
This was meh. I wanted to give the series another shot street the first book, i felt there was she potential. But it wasn't enough of a cozy mystery for me. It wasn't enough of a fantasy for me. I think it's just not for me.
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series. I really felt for Mina as she navigated the oncoming blindness that she fears so much. I loved how this book deepened the characters individually as well as their relationship dynamics with Mina. I'm so ready for Pride and Premeditation.
Not as good as the first bookOops, we have a case of second book syndrome. The plot of this book sounded really good, however there was enough absurdity that I just couldn’t overlook, including a mouse that has been terrorizing the town and had even made the front page of the local paper, plus that disastrous dinner with Mina’s mum (who by the way has a new get rich scheme). If it had only been the Banned Book Club murders with a side of investigating, and the whole rigmarole regarding Mina’s new...
This novel lived up to all of my expectations for this series.First, I need to say how impressed I am with the planning that obviously went into the structure of these novels. These books were plotted out with the long haul in mind. There is the overarching mystery of how the book characters have come to be in our world, and the small mystery each novel introduces for the characters to solve, and both are given appropriate attention in both the first and second novel. It can be a tight rope to wa...
Wilhemina and her merry bunch of men are back for another rousing murder mystery in the Nevermore Bookshop. Things are never boring in the quaint little shop that has strange happenings. Where else would you find the characters come to life from some of the most well known books in the literary world or a raven from a famous poet that can change forms? Heathcliff Earnshaw (from Wuthering Heights), James Moriarty (Sherlock Holmes arch nemesis) and Quoth aka Allan Poe (the raven from Poe's famous
3.8 starsOkay, i am obsessed with this series. ( summary ) its a rh story where the heroine Mina gets a job in a cursed bookstore where fictional characters come to life. She meets James Moriarty, Heathcliff and Poe’s raven who can transform into a human. Together they solve the murders that has been happening in the bookshop ever since Mina arrived. The guys are interested in her and are willing to share but they also have to find out how did they come out of the book into the real world first....
I'm so incredibly happy that I discovered this series and story. A lot of elements seem to be written and crafted for me and there are parts of the story, no matter how subtle that really speak to my soul. I can't think of one thing in this story I don't like and don't appreciate and the moment I started this new book I just wanted to read on and on and on. A pity I had to work in between. What I love most about this book is Mina. Mina is an amazing character. She feels real, natural and very viv...
These are an entertaining combination of mystery and steamy romance. My only complaint about an otherwise excellent audiobook is Gabrielle Baker’s lisp. It doesn’t bother me when the heroine speaks with a lisp, but when every character does, including Heathcliff? It just doesn’t work.
Ugh this series is so much bloody fun!! I did not think I'd need to binge it, but omg I do. After successfully solving her best friend's murder, Mina figures she'll catch a break and figure what to do about her attraction to the three guys of Nevermore bookshop. Of course this is not the case at all. Mrs. Ellis asks Mina about where she can host her Banned Bookclub meetings and Mina (to Heathcliff's horror) volunteers the bookshop. Things go horribly wrong at the meeting when Mrs. Scarlett drops...
Another murder mystery and romance tale. It was pretty good. There were certain aspects here that made me like the 2nd book more than the 1st, including the progression of the romance and more development into the book store mystery. We're slowly getting into the groove of things. The murder mystery of the hour tended to take precedence over the overarching fantasy theme, though. I wanted more of the bookstore and its secrets, but I understand that this is a series and I must have patience.Oh, d...
This mystery kept me guessing. The literary reference was an obscure work by Homer. There were definitely some funny parts in the story. Great characters. All good reasons for a high rating.Overall - I really loved this book. It is better than a 4 star rating. I wish there were more degrees in between because while this is no Spinning Silver, it is better than Book 1 (A Dead and Stormy Night).... which was better than average all around. I will be reading the next installment ♡As always..... Goo...
This is such an interesting (and wonderful) mix—a bit of a cozy mystery feel, quirky characters, a dash of fantasy, tons of mystery, and the reverse harem aspect...which does get spicier with each book , it appears.Mina has settled into her job at the book store...more or less. She's only been there for about one week and already found her best friend murdered between the book shelves, was a prime suspect, and discovered that there's a magical curse surrounding the store. Which happens to comple...
I always debate on rating these. The thing is the reverse harem is definitely a background plot without a lot of focus. Mina has a bit of confusion and conflicting feelings over it but it doesn't really feel important. Even the spicier sex scenes seem short and distant like the author doesn't want to spend too much time on them. And that said most of the sex scenes are a sort of Mina mentioning it happened rather than an actual scene. That said with the way the romance feel secondary the lack of...
Rating: 4.5 starsIs Heathcliff still challenging the Grinch?YesIs he still hot as fluff and the best slash worst antihero of all time?Hell yes.Book two is as strong as the first one. Mina is an endearing heroine, the guys are sins on a stick, the murder is entertaining although easy to deduct. The plot finally sets itself and we have enough little hints to expect a real development of the bookshop mystery in the following book. What I am waiting for?A new fictional character pulled out from his bo...
Of Mice and Murder by Steffanie Holmes is book 2 in the Nevermore Bookshop Mysteries Series. This continues the story of Wilhelmina 'Mina' Wilde. You really should read the previous book, 'A Dead and Stormy Night' first before reading this one. Mina is still dealing with the possibility of loosing her site, her feeling for Morrie, Heathcliff and Quoth who live above the books store she runs. Mina has already step into a passionate encounter with Morrie who is telling her to look into going into
Just as mysterious and funny as the first one. I love this series; I love the premise behind it – I mean who wouldn’t love their book boyfriends coming to life? Mina is still struggling, she’s even more worried about her sight, and she can’t quite figure out how the guys feel about her. That doesn’t stop her for looking for the person who killed a woman in the Banned Book Club, right under her nose in the bookshop. The steam ramps up a bit in this one, and it’s wonderful. Heathcliff is just as b...
Why does Mina always accidentally end up in a murder investigation? This time one of the ladies of the Banned Book Club is poisoned. Another one gets pushed down the stairs and another one attacked. who is harming them? A zealous churchgoer? Mina will have to figure out it pretty fast is she doesn't want Mrs. Ellis, her previous teacher, to be the next victim. Things heat up among her, Quoth, Heathcliff and James and while the guys work together to protect Mina, she keeps trying to uncover the t...
Of Mice and Murder (Nevermore Bookshop Mysteries Book 2) Kindle Edition by Steffanie Holmes I borrowed this book via the Kindle Unlimited program. I am choosing to leave a fair and honest review. This is the second in series. It could be possible to read it as a stand-alone, but much of the nuance, fun and twists would be lost“This is my life now, avoiding stabbings.”Mina, Morrie, Heathcliff and Quoth are back for a new mystery. And they are back with sizzingly sexy time. While Mina is with her t...
3 Fire In My Veins Stars Of Mice and Murder is the second book in the Nevermore Bookshop Mysteries series by Steffani Holmes. This book was interesting, of course. However, I found myself speed reading through all the inspector and murderer hunting moments. There just wasn’t enough dedicated to the tenants and employees of Nevermore Bookshop. Be it their relationship, how they came to be in the 20th century, or the power behind the shop itself. I’m hoping the next book, which takes us into the l...
