Acidity is medically termed as Hyperacidity. Hyperacidity is one of the most common health disorder seen in the society. It is seen in subjects of all ages, all classes, and all community. It is found to be abundantly prevalent in Indian population. As suggested from one study in India, hyperacidity/gastritis affects 25-33% of the total population. People among the age between 15-50 years are mainly affected. It is more prevalent in the urban cities than in the rural towns. This is indicative of the fact that lifestyle, stress factors and food habits contribute to the occurrence of the disorder. Hyperacidity refers to a set of symptoms caused by an imbalance between the acid secreted and the mechanism of digestion in the stomach. Gastritis is the inflammation of the stomach lining due to impaired secretion of hydrochloric acid and other digestive enzymes. Many factors may upset the GI tract and its motility. ‘Hurry’, ‘Worry’, and ‘Curry’ are the three main reasons for Hyperacidity. Apart from these three, wrong food combinations, the age factor and several medical conditions slow down or weaken the digestive fire. Disorders of the pancreas, liver, and gallbladder affect the ability to produce enzymes and acids. Because of these reasons, there is decrease in the ability to digest the food we eat leading to excessive production of acid in the stomach. In addition, another important cause of gastritis in the modern days, under current theory, is due to the infection of bacteria Helicobacter pylori. This bacterium is found in an average of 90% of patients with chronic gastritis. H. pylori are type of bacteria whose outer layer is resistant to the normal effects of stomach acid thereby making them resistant to naturally suppress their multiplication in the digestive system.
When we understand the food combining concept, digestion becomes smooth and these disorders can be avoided. Read on to know more about food combining concept…….
The trio of ‘Hurry’, ‘Worry’, and ‘Curry’ being the three main reasons for hyperacidity and the weakening of the digestion, it is essential to increase the blood circulation to all the abdominal organs. It is essential to activate and also stimulate the digestive organs starting from mouth with enhanced salivary secretion, stomach, liver, pancreas, gall bladder, small and big intestine. The recommended practice of pranayama, kriyas and bandhas will provide ample oxygenated blood supply to the brain and all the associated digestive organs. The kriyas will cleanse the body and bandhas will channelize the positive energy generated to the right place. This will in turn increase gastrointestinal balance and improve their functions. The practice of pranayama increases the production of saliva in the mouth which will have digestive enzymes like amylase aiding in proper digestion and absorption of carbohydrates in the mouth. Regularly practicing the prescribed asanas and adopting the correct yogic diet, one can experience amazing results. Read on to know more about management through Yoga practice…..
