Internal Colloquies

Internal Colloquies

Ivor A. Richards
0/5 ( ratings)
I. A. Richards begins this collection of poems and plays with thirty new poems which were written between 1960 and 1970.The volume also includes two of his earlier books of poetry. His celebrated play Tomorrow Morning, Faustus! and a new play, Job's Comforting, together with a further new poem 'Epilogue'.

Dr Richards writes: "Titles may reflect, dewdrop wise, the problems of composition. Internal Colloquies, I take it, can allude to them all. Around every phrase – behind, on all side and ahead – there are other phrases: ready to compete or support, or recklessly bent on having their own way. It is no great leap, hardly even a stride, to assign these rivals and aids, these makers and breakers, various voices.' These voices can all be heard in the many forms and moods of this collection, from 'Before the Mirror' the first poem to be written, to Tomorrow Morning, Faustus! in which Dr Richards presents the theme of Faust and his pact with the Devil in a new, contemporary context.
