Great illustrations with some very high quality stories.
A nice, really varied collection. My only minor quibble is I wish the would have put the author bios at the end of every story and an indication if this was a snippet of another story and where you could get more. There are author bios at the end of the book, but I found myself once or twice having a hard time reading the writer/artists for story, so ended up trying to flip the table of contents and then to the author bios.
This went a little way towards restoring my faith in comic anthologies. With only a few duds, most everything in it at least LOOKED really good, and while some stories didn't get much beyond that, that's okay. Stuff ran the usual anthology spectrum - baffling, personal, silly, stupid, funny, etc. - with at least one that was super hilarious and one that made me really sad. Generally a nice new addition to this series, which remains amongst the best-produced on the current scene.
Liked this a lot more than the last one. Still amazing art and some amazing stories mixed in with terrible and mediocre stories. Enough good stories to give it three stars though.
Like most anthologies, a random scattershot of material. Some of it mildly interesting, but nothing earth-shaking.
Initially, my plans for ‘Popgun’ vol.4 included a detailed review in parts with interviews with the contributors, but I had already embarked on an epic lineup as it was, so my greedy little hands took hold of this book in February. I am grateful to one of the editors, D.J. Kirkbride, who provided my review copy, which although digital was a blast to read. Image have, in the past, gifted me with quite a few hours of pure enjoyment and to review an officially provided title is a geek moment. That b...
Picked up this and it’s predecessor in the bargain bin on a recent Half Price Books stop. I love checking out anthologies and collections always with the hope of discovering new creators to further check out. Both these collections were definitely a let down. Some of the art was interesting, but not to the point to make me further check out their work. Jess Fink actually has an entry in here and it’s nowhere near the level of her other work published by Top Shelf.
Over 500 pages, over 50 different comics!! I love this series. My favorite is BASTARD ROAD (which had some in hte last POPGUN too)-- so funny. CRAPDAMMIT! And I also really dug FAMILY REUNION which was about this girl, a Frankenstein monster-type, and a shit talking dude with a duck's head and human body. And they live in the sewers Ninja Turtle style.Soooo much to review tho. Can't go though each comic, but I'd say there were maybe two or three that I kinda skimmed over. $35 and worth it.
I bought this book on a whim because a classmate from college has a short story in here. Sooo...I wasn't expecting much. Fortunately, I really do think this was money well spent. This is a great collection of short stories, and with a page count over 500, there are a LOT of good stories here.
How does one really rate/review an anthology? It's always the same review. I liked some of it, didn't like some of it and have forgotten most of it. Thanks for reading!
