So if you were wondering if this is worth getting, the answer is — unless you’re a fanatic collector of the MCU tie-in comics — no. It really doesn’t present much new material: I counted eight pages of new stuff, if we’re being generous. The rest was either recaps of the movies (which, if you’re enough of a fan to be grabbing the tie-in comics, you’ve probably seen) or excerpts from the original Civil War comics. And sure, that might prepare you for the film, I guess, but so would rewatching the...
It's really just a recap of the events of Iron Man 3 and Captain American: The Winter Soldier.
Movies don't always translate well into comic books. It just felt very disjointed in places.
Just who is this volume published for?It seems Marvel is targeting some weird microscopic niche of people who have been to the movies, have a vague interest in the characters and might someday start reading comics. It’s basically a set-up for those people who would watched or would have gotten dragged to see Captain America: Civil War without having seen any or very few of the previous Marvel films.Which brings this review around to my wife: she loves the movies and some of the TV shows, but neve...
Would have been one star but it included a reprint of Civil War #1 and that is a great comic. A restrained and tempered Millar with gorgeous Mcniven art. Literally every panel is a masterpiece. Incredible. Anyway don't read this book read Civil War.
This volume contains: two issues summarizing Iron Man 3, two issues summarizing Captain America: The Winter Solider, a post-CATWS issue about Bucky and Rumlow, and a reprint of the opening issue of the original Civil War comic. The IM3/CATWS issues are incoherent to a truly impressive degree. If you are unfamiliar with these movies, I am sure you would have absolutely no idea what is going on, and possibly come to believe you must be suffering from some sort of brain tumor; if, like me, you've se...
I forgot I'd even read this until I saw Jeff's review. I must have blocked it out of my memory.Pointless recap of the movies for... who, exactly? The only person I can think of who'd be interested in reading these would be somebody who has a court order slapped on them preventing them from watching the movies. The artwork's pretty bad too.
I mean, I guess I can give it 4 stars because it's a good recap of Iron Man 3 and the Captain America movies. That's all it is, though. Not bad, but nothing fancy.
While the artwork was nice, I didn't find this worth the read. I'd much rather watch the movies again than skim through an adaptation that leaves out a lot of scenes.
This is bad. It's mostly just showing "highlights" of IM3 and TWS and not even in a cohesive way.

Not very interesting if you've seen the last Iron Man and the last Captain America movie...basically a crude retelling (Prelude 1-4). If you haven't seen the movie...why haven't you yet!The last story (Prelude Infinite) is probably an actual "prelude" for the movie that's coming up which gives (at least to me) some extra/new information.
Good.
Marvel seem to be putting out two very different types of prelude comics to their films at the moment. When the film features a new hero, like Ant-Man, they create a great little prelude to it. But when the film is a sequel, like this one, they don't really bother. Here we have two issues re-telling Iron Man 3 and two re-telling Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Now I'm quite up for a comic book re-tellings of MCU films but only if they are done properly. If anything they could be used to add...
Captain America Civil War delivers yet another fine collection of stories connected to the Marvel film of the same name. As with other volumes in the Prelude series, it leaves the comics fan wanting more--the last story is the Civil War #1 from 2006 which hooks the reader to this saga in the Marvel universe that takes a political turn (the registration of superheroes--some of the characters take the pro-side and some the con-side) that serves as an allegory to real-life issues of personal freedo...
For real, WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?
This was a complete mess. The first issue was fair to middling and then things went downhill.I've seen the movies and I *still* couldn't follow what was happening.Trying to cram Iron Man 3 and Winter Soldier into two issues apiece was never going to work.Actually I take that back. I just read an adaptation of Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull by John Jackson Miller, told over two issues, and it was excellent. This was just crap. I actually considered giving up reading it which is something I *ne...
I didn't realize that this was not only a prelude to Civil War, but included the plot lines of both Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I haven't seen the Captain America: Civil War movie, so this helped give me a better idea of what the conflict seems to be (it's apparently so much more than just Iron Man being jealous of Captain America's boyfriend, which is what I got from the theatrical trailers that I saw). I loved all the different superheroes that were featured, along with...
