Sisters

Sisters

Ray Calabrese
0/5 ( ratings)
Nicole and Kylie Denner hardly use their first names. To everyone, except their teachers, they are Streak and Squeak. The two sisters, bonded by running, are inseparable. Squeak, the younger sister, idolizes her older sister. She feels abandoned when Streak accepts a running scholarship to the state university. The ninth grader doesn’t want Streak to leave home and go to college. She tells Streak she’s thinking about quitting running.
Streak promises Squeak she’ll run with her in the local Thanksgiving marathon as a fun run when she comes home for the Thanksgiving break. The sisters promise to stay in touch through texting and FaceTime. On the way to drop Streak at college, Squeak withdraws into a shell and begs Streak to stay home and go to the community college. Streak reassures her they’ll stay in touch and tells Squeak she has more potential than she ever had. She gets Squeak to promise to keep running. Squeak promises to run, but only for a week.
Unknown to Squeak, Streak enlists the help of the high school coach and team co-captains to encourage her to run cross country. It works. Squeaks works hard to make Streak proud of her. She soon becomes one of the best runners on the high school team. Squeak and the team’s co-captains lead the team to an unbeaten record leading up to the league, regional, and state meets. Going into the big meets, the coach reminds Squeak and the co-captains the team won all three end of season meetings for the past four years. She wants to make it five years straight. The coach asks Squeak and the co-captains to set an example for the rest of the team by working hard and to forgo running in the Thanksgiving marathon. Squeak agrees, but silently remembers her agreement with Streak.
Squeak surprises everyone when she wins the state championship, leading her team to a record fifth consecutive state title. Four days later the sisters reunite to run in the Thanksgiving marathon the following day. Their parents make them promise they’ll finish together. Squeak, now successful in her own right, no longer wants a fun run, she wants Streak to push it for time. The result is a near disaster.
