Conceptually, this book has everything in the right places. It's saying the right things and in the correct way. The writing is at times a bit shaky, but generally it ticks the correct boxes and keeps you invested. So the problem isn't the book, it's the depth of information that could've been explored but wasn't. For example, at one point it says that focus will be defined and that "you'll be surprised" but I found myself reading things I already know about focus. The points, therefore, are grea...
I'm migrating all my reviews to my blog. If you want to read the full review with my raw notes, check it here: https://pothix.com/fastfocusbookIt's a good book overall. I was between 4 and 5 for this one.It shares some great insights with When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect TimingWhen: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing and Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World, which are also amazing books. This book is short and full of great advice.
2.5 starsgood references.
I did indeed read this book in less than an hour, copying those bits that I want to return to in OneNote as the author suggests. I found it a really worthwhile little book even for someone like myself who is retired and isn’t pressured by “work”. I was feeling rather frustrated about what I was doing/not doing in my life. This book offered good suggestions for structuring my day(s) to focus on finding the things that ARE important to me, things that make me feel better physically, mentally, spir...
I wanted to regain my ability to finish a book. I believe I have! Few people love to read as much as I. Yet, unfortunately, you would never know judging by my reading average in the past few years. If I had to guess, I'd say I read 3 books a year. In my adult life, I've become a chronic and shameful book-deserter. My library is littered with titles I started and never finished. I have a clinical diagnosis of ADHD-Inattentive subtype, so my attention span is already compromised by a neurological
I have a real problem with focus, I can be doing one thing and then jump to something else. I really believe that it is hindering my ability to focus in life and so I decided to do something about it. I came across this book and I have read it from cover to cover, I have yet to implement any of the principles, so I am not sure whether they work or not. However, what I can say is that the author has gone to great lengths to explain some really good techniques that will help you to focus. The book...
A really great book! It helps me to do a lot of thing after a week reading. Damon Zahariades made me realize that my problem for time-consuming is just lack of focus. I really recommend everyone to read this book. It is designed for "Fast" reading, and "Fast" applying. Also, I really like how confident the author was.I was considering my rating for this book. Because there are a lot of things are mentioned in this book may be found on the internet or somewhere else, but Damon light it out of the...
This was an easy to grab book. Good for starters if you haven't already read other material on focus and productivity. The book has a short introductory section giving an overview of the general principles, and a much longer section on practical advice. I did find the earlier section most helpful in the book, distinguishing between voluntary/involuntary focus and broad/focused attention. But that's a very brief portion of the whole material. Most of the practical advice isn't anything new or mate...
I'm a very organized person but for quite some time I feel like I'm wasting my energy and getting distracted too easily, too often. Looking online for some suggestions, I came across Fast Focus: a Quick Start and decided to give it a try. Damon Zahariades is a good author that goes straightforward to the root of the problem and offers some insight on why it happens and how we can avoid it and focus in an easier, faster way. Is it a mind-blowing new technique that will completely change the way y...
In a technology-driven world, where it is apparent how defining the role of technology, tools and apps could be, it is also equally important to note the counter-effect these instruments of progress could play in eroding, arguably, our most important ‘tool’ for productivity and success – our focus.Certainly, we’ve had lots of productivity experts bring these to light, however, what Zahariades (the author) does is circumnavigate the theories and explanations, and go for the jugular.Describing the...
1/10I don't want to bash this book too hard because after all someone did take the time to write it but this book is trash. It is filled with the most basic methodology to focus out there. It's a collection of headlines from the internet. One of my least favorite things is that the author constantly says "Studies show," or "scientific research says," about some of the techniques he mentions but never provides any reference for the studies. It's just garbage. It's filled with mostly fluff and I h...
This was the first book I've read on boosting productivity. Some tips I've read from other productivity blogs and PDFs, such as exercise, eat a nutritious diet, etc. Okay, got it. What I like about Fast Focus is the abundance of tips and tricks beyond diet and exercise it offers to help keep you focused and when to rest your brain to maximize your productivity. I've taken these tips and tricks into account and my productivity at work has soared. What I appreciated was that after the introduction...
3.5/5A quick-action guide with tips and hacks to be more focused and less vulnerable to the endless stream of distractions while doing your daily tasks. A book with the required steps that you can follow to master your concentration. It will definitely help you leverage your productivity and work quality. *****Highlights:“Don’t be afraid of failure. Embrace it!”“If you neglect to investigate your "why", you risk never realizing the full range of benefits that accompany having a razor-sharp focus...
As an avid reader, I thrive on learning new ways to improve my life, achieve more, and be more productive. A few months ago I discovered Damon Zahariades blog on productivity and I’ve been hooked since. Damon has a down to earth approach to making more out of your time and getting things done. His writing is witty, engaging, and practical on every level. He knows that few of us have the time or attention span to read through the verbiage to get to the meat of his ideas. Damon’s new book Fast Foc...
Solid book overall, but mostly things I already knew. Good reinforcement though given that I haven't implemented a lot of the ideas.Highlights: - limit number of daily tasks to 5 - limit meetings - energy levels: focus on sleep, caffeine, etc. - others won't manage your time, only you can --> send firm, but appropriate, messages to them such as having headphones in when you're concentrating - environment matters --> make sure the music, air quality, furniture, smell, etc. are all focused on help...
