9th Grade English Project?I teach 9th grade English and I'm pretty sure a freshmen wrote this book for his final project. It's repetitive, doesn't really give concrete examples of 80/20 outside of just saying "focus on 20%." The author hates perfection, which probably means he was never an A student. I gave it a 2 because some chapters made sense, but to dedicate a book to this concept is kind of ridiculous. I'm just glad it was on sale. 80% off because only 20% is useful.
Amazing, simple and easy to implementYou read this book and say "oh this is obvious, I know it. "But you don't consciously put effort on these tasks. How to take less stress of getting everything right and just start and focus on highly important tasks and ignore un productive or less productive, is what I got from this. And he talks about each aspect of life be it job, work, family, finances, education, networking or business. Good read.
Life changerSince reading this book I have applied the 80/20 Pareto principle to every part of my life. The most successful was applying it to diet and exercise. I now don’t feel deprived I allow myself to eat what I want 20% of the time. In the 2 weeks of reading this amazing book I have become more positive and feel less stressed . It’s an absolute life changer.
Really enjoyed reading this one, a fun and productive read! Frames your mind to focus on getting to the core in anything you want to progress in - whether it be a skill, work productivity levels, fitness, cooking, household chores, time management, education, investing, social relationships, business decisions, teamwork and lots more. Focuses on cutting out the potatoes and getting to the meat! Definitely one I'll revisit now and then to get a refresher! Recommended :) !
Nicely written and a fresh perspective on productivity and goal-setting, but I can't say I learned one thing I hadn't read somewhere else or learned on my own after 60 years. Still, I'll continue reading Damon Zahariades' books because I enjoyed the book. If you don't read non-fiction for "fun" you can probably skip this one.
80/20 Your Life! covers several essential areas in your life where a simple mindset change produces a significant impact. This change is adopting the Pareto Principle, the 80/20 rule. I found Damon’s insights original, practical, useful and I kept my head saying “yes, that’s it!” most of the time. In the end, as Damon says, success is not measured by how hard you work and try to do better. It’s about find he leverage. This book is a perfect example of Archimedes insight “Give me a place to stand...
There is not much to say about this book except the fact that for everything in life the author believes and proposes that we should apply the 80/20 rule. First of all, 80/20 is a Pareto principle which basically means that 20% of your actions produce 80% of the results or in other words, if you focus on the really important matters (i.e. the 20) than the rest of matters will be taken care of by itself (i.e. the 80). The principle is great and has been applied by many people in different ways bu...
Provides a good set of examples and genres of real-life where we can consciously apply 80:20 rule.Work, Hobbies and habits, Finances - basically any goal/bucket list related domain follows 80:20 rule.
This book annoyed me. Seriously. Though I believe the principle of 80/20 is useful and actually have already used it before picking up the book, the ruthlessness with which is was suggested to be applied here set my teeth on edge. I see some people take similar paths, and while I believe everyone should play to their strengths, at a certain point, this kind of behavior leaves a mess for someone else to clean up, everything you 80'ed out of your life but is actually still important to the communi...
One of the best life changing self help booksA lot of self help books work on an individual at the emotional and psychological level, but this book works on practical level. It not only theoretically explains the meaning of the 80/20 Pareto principle, but tells you actual practices on the ground level to implement the same in various areas of life.I am thankful that I became aware of this principle as early as possible in my life, so that I can extract the maximum potential from the 24 hours I g...
Good one-time read. The writer explains application of the famous 80:20 rule to different aspects for your life, viz., your career, home life, relationships, health, finances, dating, etc. and consequently improve your productivity & effectiveness. Some of the application is far-fetched, viz., on dating, friendships, etc. whereas its application on finances, household chores is interesting. Good read for youngsters. 3 stars.
Didn’t hit the spot for meAlthough the book tell me about several truths in life it was hardly revelatory. I also felt it was rather harsh and found it difficult linking it with my values that don’t always revolve around productivity. The book was ok and I will take some things from it but it wasn’t one I particularly engaged with.
Just what I neededAs a new manager of a high performing team, I was looking to leverage our productivity. We just never seem to be able to get the high priority stuff done. We're audited multiple times per month, and no sooner do we get the audit report, another audit is scheduled. I was looking for a way to get more done in between the audits; to correct the findings. The 80/20 is the answer I was looking for. This book was easy to read and follow and to apply to my situation. I've read many of...
