This is a brilliant read! It pulled me in from beginning to end and held my attention. The world building is detailed and imaginative. This novel has strong, well developed characters and an interesting story line that keeps you turning the pages. I recommend this novel and would read more novels by this author. I gave this honest, voluntary review after being given a free copy of the novel.
Well Unlawful Harvest by PD Workman is different than any of her other series. I enjoy Medical Thrillers as I've been in the medical profession for many years. I enjoyed the chemistry between the characters. The story line was one that made you think that this stuff is really going on. And that's a sad fact.Great job. CheersLynn🇨🇦
Unlawful Harvest was part of an anthology under the book, Do No Harm, that had 17 medical mysteries. This was a frightening thriller that brought forward the horror of transplants in foreign countries. How safe is it? Do other countries have a system like the USA? Kenzie Kirsch, in good health, is the daughter of a rich family in politics who lives the life of luxury. Her sister is not as lucky being ill from a young child with a kidney disease. What Kenzie doesn’t know about her sister’s illnes...
As usual from this author a very well written book, and this time dealing with very serious matter. To call it a thriller is not right, however, and some of the main characters' reactions don't seem very normal. But the book is well worth a read!
Slow starterIt took quite a while to get into the story, but once I did it actually got interesting. I teach English Composition, and one thing that struck me about the story was how it seemed like a research paper with a twist of mystery.
Workman is a master at taking a social issue and making it both thought-provoking and entertaining. It's a great book, so sad the topic is not something that gets the headlines it deserves.
Interested in finding out Kenzie Kirsche's backstory? Unlawful Harvest gives you the origin story for this Medical Examiner's assistant from the Zachary Goldman Mysteries and Kenzie Kirsch Medical Thrillers.
A socialite interrupts her life of social functions and casual hook-ups to investigate the circumstances surrounding her younger sister's death. The sister was a recipient of a foreign kidney transplant and had been plagued with symptoms subsequently. Kenzie was not informed of the operation and was perturbed about the secrecy. When the sister dies of complications from malaria, Kenzie investigates and is troubled both by what she finds and the reaction of her family to her investigation.I didn'...
UNLAWFUL HARVEST is the first book in the A KENZIE KIRSCH MEDICAL THRILLER series. It's connected to the ZACHARY GOLDMAN MYSTERIES series, of which I've read a few, and it gives a lot of background information on how they met and how she got into the medical field. There are a lot of twists and turns to the story as well as medical jargon, especially how it relates to transplants, and it held my interest from the first page to the last. While it can be read as a standalone it did fill in some of
An intense story that is excellently written in an easy to read style. Organ transplant is a very contemporary issue with more and more people looking to prolong their lives with this option. This story takes a look at some of the dangers for people wanting to dig deeper into the practice. Kenzie Kirsch is one such person who is unwilling to accept the lies and wants to get some relief from her feelings of grief. Lots of action and great interactions. I enjoyed it very much.
Unlawful Harvest (A Kenzie Kirsch Medical Thriller Book 1). I've now read 30 books from author P.D. Workman, this may be the best yet. Extremely well written, the characters well-developed. M mystery/suspense than anything I'v read of her other works. Maybe why that's why I like it so much since I love a good mystery. “I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it.(RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Why did I finish this book? This could have been a good book but it wasn't. The premise was compelling but the characters were totally vacuous. The women were 60s stereotypes, even though the book seemed to be set in the 1990s or later. They had no jobs or apparent means of support other than family money but we never learned where the money came from or anything about the women. I am amazed to see that there are sequels to this book but I won't be reading them.
GoodThis is a fairly good novel although a predictable plot. It has a slow start, before getting interesting. The ending felt a bit lacking though, it didn't fully tie everything up. I was expecting something more dramatic. Overall I enjoyed the book, but I did skim read some bits that weren't moving the story along.
